"First time visit to Pickering so looked for a place to have a nice drink before our meal in town, we went to the pub next door first, the large glass windows made it look quite smart but soon as we walked in the door we realised it was Pickerings version of Weatherspoons, we didn’t stay, so that’s how we came to be in the White Swan, and what a contrast, they had a lovely warm fire which was much needed as we got drenched walking into town and cosy seating. There was a good choice of beers and spirits and service was very good. The bar manager was very engaging with customers and was constantly checking everything was how it should be, I also noticed staff did regular checks on the toilets, which showed as the gents was spotless. We returned for another drink on our second night and would consider staying as a guest on our next visit."

The food was very good (my steak was excellent and perfectly cooked) and the Tuna Loin my wife had was superb. The waitresses were very attentive and made the evening very pleasant.

Very nice good food great service lovely comfortable quiet rooms, being able to park car next to hideaway room a good advantage in not having to cart bags and clothes up and down stairs. View menu

"The restaurant was simply excellent. The staff was great and the food was delicious. We decided to stop in on a whim and they quickly found us a table. We ordered our meals and had a wonderful dining experience."

The restaurant was not good and extremely overpriced for the quality of the food. I ordered half a lobster for £24 and was disappointed to find it tasteless and rubbery. The desserts were also a rip off, priced at £10 for a small portion.

With many local restaurants in the area shutting down, there are limited dining options available. It seems that the remaining establishments are trying to capitalize on this by charging exorbitant prices. The prices at this particular pub are outrageous, taking advantage of both locals and tourists. I can find a sticky toffee pudding for much cheaper on the outskirts of the city. Charging £9 for a dessert is just ridiculous.

We went for a family dinner 6 people and the service was dreadful the girl serving front of house the orders and taking payment was so rude and without any care for the service it completely spoilt the experience. We went to the Italian restaurant the previous night and the service was warm caring and exceptional the contrast was staggering we would never come back! Food was ok nothing to get excited about but do yourself and go elsewhere!

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
