"Dinner. Tapas fine dining evening. It's one of Ashbournes' premier restaurants. Located in Boylestone, a lovely little village just off the A50. On arrival, you are seated in the cosy bar area for a pre-dinner drink. A Sangria was the obvious choice. You are then shown through to the dining room. Barn, like with its exposed brick and high rafters, which is spacious and airy. Our table was facing the open kitchen where we could watch the chef and his team in action. As well as their seasonal tasting menus, they do some themed evenings. On our visit, it was the Tapas Menu. Snacks BBQ Picanto,feta/ Israeli cous cous. Manchogo Jambon Croquette Chorizo. Loligo squid Tompura,saffron aioli/ anchovy oil. Gambas Pil Pil House Focaccia,tomato/ anchovy Hand Dived Orkney Scallop,Squid Ink Paella Iberico Pork Chop,black olive Hasselback potato bravas Salad of fennel/ orange/ citrus. Poached Clementine,lemon sorbet. Pastel De Nata,almond ice cream Petit Pours Service is attentive but not intrusive. The food and ingredients are of the highest quality. For a relaxed informal evening with music in the background, you'll be hard pushed to find better."

"I enjoyed my visit to this charming countryside pub. The Sunday dinner I had was good, but I felt that the portion of vegetables was a bit lacking. Personally, I prefer my roasted vegetables to be cooked for longer to bring out their sweetness, instead of tasting the full carrot and parsnip flavors. The staff were very attentive and made our experience enjoyable. Overall, I would definitely return to this restaurant. In my opinion, if they improved their mashed potatoes and added more greens to their Sunday dinner, it would easily be a 5-star meal."

"First time visit this evening and we had a lovely time. Food was great and all the staff were lovely and looked after us really well. Would definitely recommend if in the area. We'll have to come back for Sunday roast which we hear is rather good Thanks again for a super first visit. Well we've been back a few times now, most recently for a great Sunday lunch with the family. Still a 5 star experience and can't wait to be back!!"

"This is the fourth of our proposed regular Sunday lunch reviews for the Ashbourne area. The atmosphere and welcome was a bit lacking but that was largely because of the adverse weather conditions and I imagine would be lovely at other times. The food however...was first rate and excellent value at for a roast dinner of in our case beef and lamb, with half-a-chicken being a third option at the time of our visit. Both meats were very good and served with plenty of vegetables both in terms of variety and quantity, so if you're not an avid veg eater then it might be worth asking for a smaller serving to save waste! Thus along with the usual suspects there was swede and celeriac, plus separate bowls of an excellent cauliflower cheese and a good if [for us] over-sweetened red cabbage. The Yorkshire pudding was a perfect example of the genre, being small and tasty rather than oversize and from a packet. Mint horseradish sauces were served without being requested, as was additional gravy. A nice thought. I can't speak for the puddings as we passed on those but from the menu they looked interesting and more elaborate than most, albeit at a correspondingly higher price of or so. All in all a nicely-cooked and well-presented meal and we will certainly return."
