"We were lucky enough to be there for Valentine night celebrating our wedding anniversary. The food was amazing. Special course menu for the evening was offered. Choices were a pork medallion plate, a steak plate or a fish plate. Starter were all the...same for each menu, dessert was different for each. We had the pork and the steak dinners. The pork came with an orgasmic chocolate cake and steak had a lovely raspberry panna cotta. We will go back to try their regular menu."

So the food is good but the manager would not take the horrible vinegar wine off the Euro...really? Not impressed with the Bulgarian service. Not coming back.

So thankful we found this spot! We walked the city proper for a while before locating it. Everyone in my party had the meat platter except me. I had the Zander fillet. We were all very pleased.

The Bulgarians run this and put their own spin on the food! They do have an excellent pesto pasta! The Schnitzel is also good.. they have different specials depending on the day! Decent prices, right downtown Kaiserslautern, so great location View menu

Tired of schnitzel and spaetzle....??? Blessedly at Zur Burg you will find yourself immersed in carnivore heaven. Where each steak is cooked to perfection, and topped to whatever your desire. The place is quite popular.... especially in the winter, during their special steak nights so...reservations are recommended. Bom Appetit

I think its the best steak in KL. Went with friends for dinner and we had the best night. all steaks on the table where cooked as orders, food was hot, well seasoned and served as requested as we did not want to rush the...night. For all the once who check out the dessert menu first, have the creme brûlée for dessert.......perfect to conclude the dinner

We’ve been to Zur Burg many times... we find that we have the best experience there in service quality when we are with our German friends who know the owner. One time we were just on a group of Americans, the wine was vinegars,...when we asked for a new glass, we were still charged for the undrank vinegar wine. Lately we’ve had better luck-especially when dining with Germans. View menu

An informal ambient that is probably best described as „ grandma’s kitchen table“. Friendly enough but very laid back, informal and at times slow. The steaks are good quality and cooked well, the sides appear to be frozen products treated to a blast in a...hot oven. Overall, it’s the kind of place you leave with a full belly but no other lasting impression… I wouldn’t refuse to go again, but I’d not recommend it either. It’s got that „ that’ll do“ vibe.

So disappointed tonight, highly recommended this restaurant to our friends visiting from the US... got vinegar wine.... did not drink it—asked for a different wine and explained that this was a bad bottle... we we’re still charged full price for glasses! They disagreed with...us. Will not return.. very disappointed, despite decent food... definitely never have been the friendliest to Americans... but we overlooked because we liked the food... won’t be returning

"Holiday, nice weather and still what to do in Kaiserslautern. We planned our start in Kaiserslautern with a light lunch. We visited Ayame for the first time 3 years ago. It is located in the former JVA Kaiserslautern, which was converted a few years ago into the Hotel Alcatraz. A Japanese restaurant fits well here, because the Japanese garden borders directly on the building. We have free parking in the courtyard. Schlichter hotel entrance, only hidden hints at the restaurant The way to the small restaurant leads past the reception. At 13.45 we entered the small restaurant with few seats and hoped to have a seat. Open until 14.00. A long-term construction site on the way to Kaiserslautern forced us to a rather large detour. We were the only guests, were warmly welcomed by a young man. Our question whether we get anything else to eat was kindly hunted. So we took a seat in the small, Japanese-style dining room and got the menu. Optic hasn't changed much since our last visit. Everything is clean and well maintained, bare tables. Daylight only illuminates the room. Unfortunately, you can't look outside. . The menu surprised me. She was partly handwritten and so completely different from my memory. Due to the advanced time, we decided very quickly: 2 large mineral water € 2.50 Foreway to crumb: Edamame € 4.20 For both of us: Sushi Menu € 13.80: Miso Soup, 3 Sushi Nigiri, 4 pieces Hosomaki, 8 pieces Uramaki Our drinks came immediately and well cooled. A good portion of the salted soybeans a little later. The hot beans in the bowl were a tasty crackling beforehand. The young man supported a (his? wife in the open kitchen. Here I was able to observe how the Misosuppe was tasted and the lady freshly prepared our sushi. That made all a very good impression. View into the open kitchen The steaming soup with tofu insert tasted mild and yet aromatic according to the Wakamealga. After a reasonable waiting period, our sushi were served. Very appealing. The 3 Nigiri classic with salmon, shrimp and tuna. The “Makis” pefect rolled, very good in taste. Overall a good portion, we were pleasantly tired. There was really nothing to complain about for the price. Sushi Menu The young man was very attentive, but to expect from two guests. In between the question whether everything tastes. Wasabi, soy sauce and ginger were handed down. In the case of numbers, the solution for the significantly different menu. The young Japanese couple only took over the restaurant a few weeks ago. This also explained that some processes have not yet been very routined. Stay to hope that the small restaurant will talk to friends of Japanese cuisine. Despite proximity to the city, it is very hidden in the building complex. Running is not coming over here and not every hotel guest likes Sushi. The toilets belong to Hotel Alcatraz, are modern, very clean and well maintained. Restaurant and toilets are walkable and without stairs."
