"I have recently moved to Swindon from London and was trying to find a place to take my wife for her birthday. my expectations was close to find dinning and I can assure you that Bassett down turned out to be an excellent choice. I was a little doubtful with my previous outings in Swindon as none of the restaurants you'd exactly call fine Dine. I was wrong and the whole evening was a pleasant experience and I'd already recommended to my friends and family here. We went on a Friday evening 6pm ish and the place was relatively quiet, could have been January blues. Design of the restaurant it self is contemporary. At the door greeted by a member of staff (I think his name is Dan) and was shown our reserved table. He was very attentive throughout the evening , very chatty at the end and helpful with the menu when needed. Dan is a top chap in my opinion. Food was very good, I had Lamb which melted like butter in my mouth . My partner had Sea bass, again tasted very good. Definitely try the rice fritters with peanut sauce, don't expect the calamari to be heavily coated and sticky toffee for dessert was sublime. My wife was pleasantly surprised to see her dessert with a candle on it and written Happy birthday. We had 3 course meal with a drink each and it was just over £80. Which I find it a bargain given the nature of the food, service and ambience. Parking was plentiful. All in all this was a fantastic place and I have found somewhere I could take guests when they visit Swindon, if they wanna go somewhere different to Greggs or Mcdonalds."

"Visited with a friend for a Sunday lunch she had booked but given most of the other reviews, we must have drawn the short straw. We were put at a table just inside the door that was not the best location nor very comfortable but a good view of the bar and comings and goings. We both ordered roast. On top of, and covering the whole plate sat half of a huge carrot and half of a huge parsnip, underneath was lamb, so called roast potatoes and soggy Yorkshire pudding all sitting in gravy. Somewhere amongst this insipid pile was white cabbage (no sign of fine green beans as described on the menu). It looked totally unappealing and did not taste much better. I ate half to be polite even though had been saving myself for a nice roast; I couldn 't face eating any more. Price point probably was indicative of quality at £9.95 (Sunday roast). Soft drinks, 1 tea and 1 cappucino that looked more like an instant coffee with a bit of froth bobbing on the top. A couple next to us came and went and then I saw a cloth being pulled out from behind the bar to wipe the table. Not sure what it had been used for but I was pretty horrified. I didn 't think the place generally had a particularly clean and hygenic feel to it aside of it being dark and oldy worldy/chabby chic inside. The small outside seating area backed onto the car park and was popular with smokers. Upside was staff were friendly and accommodating but unfortunately I will not return on that basis.Littlebury itself is a small village/road just outside Saffron Walden a nice church and setting but really nothing in particular to stop for except for this pub that happens to serve food."

"I definitely felt the need to write a review for my stay at Gunmakers, since there are so few that actually reference the lodging provided (most just focused on the pub side of the business). I stayed here on two different instances in September 2023, before heading up north to hike Hadrian's Wall, and again upon my return to London, before flying back home. Overall, both stays were very nice. I stayed in the same room both times, on the top floor. While the views out the window weren't anything special, the room overall was quite comfortable. For meals, if you choose to eat at Gunmakers, you can either go down to the pub or you can call down to place an order and they'll deliver it to your room. The location was perfect, on a quiet side street and well priced for being in Marylebone. There are a couple rail stations that are with easy walking distance. Otherwise, several of the city's landmarks are within easy walking distance, if you're not in a rush, including The British Museum, Buckingham Palace, St. James Park, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and the London Eye. The only thing that was a bit awkward was going to bar and explaining you're there to check in for lodging and not there for food/drink, especially if it's during a busy time for the pub. It might be worth looking into an alternative way to handle this side of the business, but still, it was overall a fairly easy process. Checking out was much smoother all you need to do is drop your room key in a dropbox as you're leaving the building. Overall, I would certainly stay here again the next time I'm in London."

"We arrived for our reservation and, at first glance, it seemed to live up to the hype—this was the highlight of the evening. After waiting about three minutes at the entry, Callie beckoned us over from the bar in a rather erratic manner. The interaction was confusing and awkward; we felt like we were constantly trying to navigate the experience. While she prepared our cocktails, we noticed the drink was poorly made: the lemonade was flat, and the cocktail tasted overly sweet and undrinkable. Our waiter suggested we drink it quickly to be polite. We settled into the lounge, still excited about the evening and the amazing food everyone had raved about. However, we were greeted with the odd soundtrack of "Top 10 Breakup Songs." When it was finally time to take our seats, we had to insist that we had a reservation. It felt strange to be questioned about our booking after already confirming it at the bar. I requested a drink change, explaining that my cocktail was overly diluted, flat, and too sweet for my liking. I asked for a Negroni, but five minutes later, I was told they couldn’t make one because they didn’t have the ingredients. Understandable, given that it was off-menu, but I opted for a Tom Collins instead. Unfortunately, it also arrived flat and poorly mixed, this time with an excessive amount of gin. After waiting for an hour for someone to take our food order, we decided to change our minds and asked for the bill for our drinks, which never came. Frustrated, we eventually left. This experience completely ruined our night. We reached out privately to share our concerns, but they haven’t responded, which shows they clearly don’t care. So, I’m sharing my review publicly instead."
