"At Akari you’ll find a piece of Japan in the heart of Hamburg. The restaurant is run by the Ohira family. The interior is best described as minimal elegant the staff is very friendly but sometimes overwhelmed when the place os fully booked what is actually the usual situation. A reservation is highly recommended. The food is fantastic yet follows typical Japanese values and quality. The menu offers Japanese classics from Ikuraoroshi, Agedashi and sometimes Shishamo. A true classic starter is Akari’s Yakitori served with home made teriyaki sausce. The chicken meat for all chicken dishes is cut from the chicken thigh the secret of the rich taste. Besides excellent Sashimi and Sushi the Ton Katsu and the Ebi Fry Curry is mouth watering. Overall the Akari is not the right place for a fancy modern Japanese food experience but you find traditional dishes perfectly executed"

a small local Japanese restaurant serving a selection of cold and hot dishes. can be booked especially on Fridays and Saturdays, so book them absolutely. there is no great selection of sushi and sashimi, but the offer is always beautifully presented and fresh.
