"Au Cabanon has been a favourite for a few years now as a place for us as vegetarians to visit with hardened carnivore friends. Therefore, I am delighted to say that the change of ownership this year has seen the restaurant build on the past with new dishes and wines whilst retaining the best of what went before. It is the best place to eat in Puycelsi and worth detour. The setting that others have described means that this is a place for good weather and, with room for around 25, it is wise to book, particularly in high season. The web site is informative by the way and an easy way to book if, like me, your French collapses on the telephone! They respond very quickly. The menu is short but being a two-person operation, this is a good sign. The dishes are straightforward. But the chef prepares and presents them very well and some that we have had this summer have been exceptional. The menu now changes regularly and this reflects the fact that they use local and seasonal products. There have always been some of Gaillac’s better wines at Au Cabanon and the new owners have further developed this area too. Most are ‘bio’ from small produces and I have enjoyed the delicious Babylon Sunday (a rosé) by Marine Ley (Vignereuse) and a glass of ‘bules’ to start (L’Angelou’ from Jerome Galaup. As I have said, this is a two-person operation so service can sometimes be slow when they are busy but not excessively so. The point is that if there were more staff then the prices would inevitably be higher and the chef will often serve his dishes and is more than happy to discuss them."

Outside seating with a stunning view. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. I'm glad it was the only place opened or I might not have gone there.

Fantastic little restaurant summer season only. Good mix of traditional French cuisine but also great vegetarian and vegan selection which is quite unusual. Excellent service from Clara and her chef husband. Great to meet the chef and discuss the meal. We will be back. Good value and lovely setting. View menu

relaxed atmosphere, excellent eating and good service: we came to lunch a little random, and we were both very impressed by the quality of the food we had: appetizers, nets and desserts were all excellent! modern, fresh, original, but classic. Gastropub type, with strong local connections with production. perfect!

Popped in here for lunch as we were half way through our short tour of 3 of the most beautiful villages in France in this region. So glad we did! The duck was superb, as were the desserts of the day (apricot tart and sheep's yoghurt with pear compote). Everything was cooked with a flavour twist - and was wonderful. Well worth a visit.

sommer 2021 update. this year the menu in au cabanon has a Spanish influence. especially we like the white gazpacho with mandel and black garlic. it looked delicious when served and delicious to taste. as always, large local organic wines and beer and good...options for the sweet and vegan and non-gluten for. super place for dinner or lunch in a beautiful bastide village. So pleased to see Au Cabanon open for the summer with such an enterprising young couple bringing fresh ideas to a menu designed to make the most of great local produce. We found lovely meat based and vegetarian dishes, tasty, well presented and fairly priced. A modern, inventive menu made sure all 3 of us found something we liked. Contrary to another post, we thought Clara was helpful, informative and incredibly efficient given the number of diners, including an orchestra who arrived wanting coffee!!I don't think you can ask for more in a beautiful, teeny medieval village. Enjoy the lunch, take your time and savour the region and all it has to offer.

Having a high quality, reasonably priced restaurant in a small village like Puycelci really made the decision to spend the night here an easy one. The food was expertly prepared from fresh local ingredients and matched the quality (but not the price) of some of...the best meals we had on our two week trip to France. The local red wine was delicious too! I am still craving the eggplant roulette starter, garnished with the sweetest tomatoes I 've had all summer. We were thrilled they were open on a Monday evening in late September. The seating is outdoors with plastic sheeting to provide warmth and protection from the elements, which it did. Highly recommend!
