"I used to come to the Bengal Brasserie a lot many years ago 15 20 plus maybe and it only came back on my radar having moved house over to the Ormeau area. We have been there three times in the last couple of weeks and I couldn’t recommended the food, service and ambiance more highly. It’s a real treat to go there. The food is top notch fresh, full of flavour and beautifully presented. But what sets it apart is the warm welcome and customer service. My family and I were warmly welcomed on every occasion, and the Menu options were tailored to suit a range of tolerances to hot food and spice. Service was very attentive and personal on every occasion, and there is a clear level of pride among the staff. The little touches like the hot towels at the end of the serving and complimentary post dinner liquor bring back great memories of classic restaurant service. We loved it all and on every visit! This original version of Bengal Brasserie (the Lisburn Road one is a different business with difference owners I believe) has been an institution in Belfast for over 30 years and it is easy to see why it has stood the test of time when hundreds of restaurants have come and gone over three decades. My only regret is that it fell off my radar for so long, but I am so glad we have rediscovered it! I’d highly recommend it!"

Had not been here for a while but once everything was fantastic. Food, staff, service all 5 star. Never been disappointed just wished we lived closer.

As an Indian, it's tough to ignore that for several dishes in fish and chicken, the restaurant used the same gravy. I was homesick so ordered 3-4 varieties of fish and chicken and how disappointed I was. I never visited again!

Fabulous evening with friends. First time here. Food was delicious and the staff very attentive. Reasonably priced for a very good Indian Restaurant. Will definitely go back. I'm not a big drinker but they offer beautiful Mocktails

So disappointed with my meal last night. A very watery korma which arrived not quite cold, but not hot either. The prawns were absolutely blazed, overcooked and tough. Really not a great experience. Delivery also arrived after the allotted time window so I was very hungry.

I love it, to this Indian as with all Indian restaurants has a good vege range (ni not too good catering for vegets and still list fish as option!) and service is friendly and attentive. Previously the road was down and was not so well visited, but made a good step. definitiw a visit. updated by previous review on Tuesday, 11 august 2009

my favorite Indian restaurant in belfast; good food, wein and service. I often visit the bengal brasserie and I'm never disappointed. I think they have a large vegetarian series and there is a complete vegetarian section on their menu. I love her Sab-Ji thalia, it's fabulous. I would give this place an assessment of 5 out of 5 if I could.

I ordered chicken Methi via Uber eat. The one that I got is the one in the picture, which is definitely wrong. I called the restaurant, and they sent back the same dish again I ordered Chicken Methi 4 times previously, so I am sure it's wrong. The dish that I received was extremely spicy that I couldn't handle, which exacerbated my cough. This is not even written in the menu as for other spicy dishes. Very bad experience. Also, the pilu rice was so plain. It was without flavour. The starter (mix) was not really yummy but not too bad. Very bad experience.

I would give 0 stars if it was an option. We ordered a pasanda curry and a butter chicken dish but received two light yellowy beige curries. As soon as we opened the lid we sensed something was wrong and tried a bit of the sauce with a teaspoon. It was absolutely nauseating and inedible. We hate to waste food but had no other choice than to discard both of them as it tasted like semolina pudding with chunks of meat in it, just disgustingly sweet and gritty without even a slight hint of spice. As you can see from the picture, the two dishes looked exactly the same. They also smelled and tasted the same as well. We called the restaurant to confirm that we were indeed given the correct order an...

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."

"I'm an American. I was invited to work at the queen’s university in a global conference. my airline has moved my baggage, so I stopped in the barking dog to use her wlan to check the status of my baggage and have a drink and a snack with my associate who has unusual allergies. the menu had nothing to call us, so we have decided to finish and move only our drinks./ at no point has anyone informed that it is illegal to have only drinks, and our server ran our review without mentioning any legal requirements. After I paid, someone who I suspect, the manager, came to the table and checked our reception. exactly what I thought was what they said before they cheated on me how it is illegal to buy drinks in a restaurant without eating. I apologised and explained that I had no warning. I offered to buy food retroactive and they refused. then they repeated that I was in a restaurant and not in a pub and that my activities were illegal. they denied my multiple attempts to apologise me while I explained that I am not out of the opposite. this experience was very confusing for me, because the night before me had drinks in a restaurant without food and it was no problem. in any case I was told that there is no such law and that the ordering of drinks without eating in a restaurant is very common. I've never been treated so badly in a customer service dynamic and I'm not sure why this happened. I feel targeted and totally mistreated for what does not seem to be a good reason. To finish it, it was my birthday. complete error in the name of what this person was. I will say the rest of the staff was very pleasant and accommodating."
