"Went to champneys on Sunday, we had been given a lovely voucher for a birthday. Hadn't been in some time. First impressions, not good, very scruffy outside, weed's everywhere, chipped paintwork. When we got in, I said to a gentleman we had a reservation for 3.30, he looked at his list, turned, walked away, apparently we were just to follow him! Not a word spoken. Pate, undecided on if it's bought or made, bland, tasteless. Burgers came, both raw in the middle, horrible. Second burgers arrived, obviously cooked quickly, charred, burnt and horrible smell and taste. Extremely overpriced poor quality food, and you are eating in near dark, small candle on the table, impossible to see. Avoid."

Staff are friendly and welcoming and offer great service, food is of very high quality….would recommend the venison burger with Brie and cranberry, delicious! Couldn’t manage a pudding but others enjoyed the apple crumble which looked fab and apparently tasted delicious too. Restaurant is really cosy with loads of interesting features, will definitely be back soon. Thank you!

What can I say once again The Champany didn’t disappoint us! From start to finish the food was sublime (no other words) I can honestly say hand on heart this was the finest meal I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The Chateaubriand just melted in our mouths, absolutely exquisite. Thank you for making our 28th wedding anniversary meal one to remember. Always love coming here and love the warmth of the staff and owner x View menu

We 've been to the Chop&Ale (scruff part of this establishment many times and thoroughly enjoyed the meals there. As a result of Covid(? this closed down and the only option is to go to the main restaurant the food was ok, the service poor. When the food arrived it was plonked down without asking if we wanted anything else. Which we did i.e. Vinegar for the chips. It was almost impossible to get anyone 's attention to request this, resulting in one of the guests shrieking 'excuse me '....No one checked to see if the meal was OK or if we wanted something else. At that price thats the least you expect...

"I had made a reservation for 2:00 PM, and upon arrival, we opted to sit in the beer garden because it was such a warm day. We were informed that we needed to order and pay for our meals inside, which was fine. Inside, we were handed two menus. I had been raving to my friend about the amazing pizzas they serve, so we were disappointed to find out that those are only available after 5:00 PM. However, there are plenty of other delicious options on the menu, so we decided to go with burgers— I chose the Highlander and my friend went for the chili burger. We let the waitress know we’d like to sit outside, which was no problem. However, I found it a little odd that we had to carry the jug with the numbered wooden spoon, along with the condiments and cutlery, to our table ourselves. It would have been nice to be shown to a table and have the necessary items placed there for us. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and we were not disappointed—the burgers were fantastic and the portion sizes were quite generous. My friend thought the chili on their burger had a flavor that leaned a bit too much toward tomato sauce, but that’s just personal preference. After finishing our meal, we ended up chatting for about 45 minutes, during which our dirty plates were left in front of us as no one checked on us since the food was served. This might be something management could improve upon. Would I return? Absolutely! It’s a lovely place for drinks on a summer evening, and the food certainly competes with the best. A few tweaks could enhance the experience, like making diners feel less like they might be hastily heading out without paying, and ensuring staff return to the table during diners' stays. Also, it would be nice if diners weren’t expected to carry their cutlery to the table. I hope the owners take these small criticisms in the spirit they are intended."
