"We were recommended this pub in the area by the visitors book and decided to make a reservation for a table for two with our dog. Upon arriving, it was very busy with large parties and we couldn't locate our reserved table. We asked at the bar but no one seemed to be seating people. It appeared that our booking was not written down, so we were given an unreserved table and menus. We had to order at the bar due to a shortage of waiting staff. Despite waiting 45 minutes for our meal, no one came to update us on the delay. The wait was so long that a nearby couple had finished their meal, ordered dessert, and left before we were served. When our food finally arrived, it was lukewarm, especially the vegetables, and the beef was very rare, even though we weren't asked how we wanted it cooked. It seemed like the restaurant had taken on too many bookings and the staff appeared disorganized."

A lovely old pub in a quiet area by Whitchurch. The food was really good, and the prices didn’t break the bank either. Staff were really nice and Friendly. Would recommend

My Wife says one of the best Sunday dinners she’s had in ages, she had the beef which cam with a lovely Yorkshire pudding and good selection of vegetables, I opted for the special steak and ale pie and chips, good selection of cask ales and friendly and polite staff.

A truly lovely and down to earth pub. Dog friendly, good range of real ale and good delicious menu. We were drawn to the pub as it was closest to where we were staying and with the awful weather we thought it best not to travel to far. A good result all round. Great food, great atmosphere and good evening

We were on holiday and found this pub by accident, it was Sunday so we went in for lunch. They were fully booked but they said if we had a drink at the bar then we would be given a table when one became available. We didn't have to wait too long and was seated and we ordered our food which we thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were friendly and attentive and the place was clean and had a nice atmosphere, what more could you ask for! Highly recommended. View menu

I made a reservation for Christmas lunch at this restaurant and I am so glad I did. The food was absolutely fantastic - the roasted turkey with all the traditional accompaniments was delicious, and the vegetable dish was an amazing array of fresh options. There was so much food that we couldn't finish it all. Despite the pub being busy, the service from just one waitress and the manager was impressive. It was clear that the restaurant is well-managed. It was definitely worth the money spent.

We enjoy the ambiance of this restaurant and often come with our family. However, during our visit last night, there was an issue with the cream in our dessert. After bringing it to the attention of the bartender, she displayed a terrible attitude, stormed into the kitchen without saying a word, and later returned to our table to slam the dessert down, claiming she had tasted it and it was fine. She angrily told us to eat it, mentioning that it was vanilla added by the chef the day before. This behavior is unacceptable in a customer-facing role. Despite this, the manager handled the situation well. It was disappointing to experience such rude behavior from a member of the staff, leaving a ne...

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."

"Open since 1970 and located on Mardol, one of Shrewsbury’s oldest streets @thecurryhouseshrewsbury serves locally sourced ingredients married with traditional spices and chillies from the Indian subcontinent, a match made in heaven. 5 5 Recommended Price No better way to kick off proceedings but with popadoms, chutneys and fresh onion salad. On to appetisers and there are so many tempting dishes to choose with many of these exclusive to the curry house. Our first time trying Pani Puri. A sweet and spicy hot street food snack filled with chickpeas and tamarind sat on a bed of crunchy, nutty Bombay mix. With a building but pleasant heat, definitely something everyone should try. The quality and freshness of the seafood was exceptional. Spicy king prawns were huge and cooked to perfection. Charred on the outside for flavour but juicy and meaty. Trio of King scallops were beautifully tender and of a good size with sweetness from the tamarind liquor. Lamb rogan Josh tender lamb shoulder in a medium hot ginger tomato and onion sauce. A strong take on a traditional favourite of ours. Fresh from the Tandoor a generous mix of marinaded chicken, lamb, king prawns and a chargrilled lamb chop. The Tandoori deluxe massalla sauce was the perfect blend of sweetness melting into a subtle heat which brought the dish together perfectly. The curry house takes traditional dishes and flavours from the Indian subcontinent and elevates them to a level beyond expectations. Thank you for our invite to share the exciting menu created with passion and creativity. If you are looking for a curry house with a difference this is the place for you. #theshropshirefoodies #foodblog #foodstagram #shrewsbury #shropshire #restaurantreview #foodjournal #foodblogger #instafood"

"Fantastic range of small dishes and meals for lunch and dinner. The menu ranges from scandi to oriental, so something for everyone. The menu is clearly marked with allergens, including what meals can be adapted. The chicken is halal and vegan and vegetarian options are plentiful. The cocktail and mocktail menu is great and they do one of the best espresso martinis in Shrewsbury. The decor is modern and comfortable and there is plenty of space. As a wheelchair user, I can get into the ground floor and to a table. The outside seats are up a small step, but the whole front of the building is a retractable wall of windows, so I can still get the feeling of eating outside in good weather. The service is friendly and knowledgeable about allergies, the menu and the wine list. The staff are helpful and unobtrusive. The only difficulty for me (hence the 4 star review) is that the accessible bathroom is next door, in their sister bar, Libertine. Unfortunately, libertine isn't open the same hours as HotRS, so I can only use it at certain times. The ladies does have a lock on the door, so staff have cleared the ladies toilets, which allowed me to take my chair in and lock the door. I had to walk a couple of steps to get into a stall but my chair was safely with me. Of course, there is also no alarm cord, but they stood outside the door so would have heard if I shouted for help."
