"I took some friends on a tour through the Sierra de Alcaraz which is the mountain range to the South West of Albacete with some absolutely breathtaking views. I had intended to stop in Elche de la Sierra for lunch, but we arrived too early, so I drove on to Riopar near the source of the Rio Mundo and stopped here. We ate on the terrace and the food was good value for the price (Menu del Dia 9€ per head), but nothing special. The toilets were clean and the staff friendly. Its main claim to fame being that it was on the junction to the side road leading to the source of the Rio Mundo. Whilst I have nothing against this restaurant, I do feel that some of the other restaurants listed in Riopar might be better. So next time, I will try another."

Great place to stop and stretch your legs if you're driving in the Riopar region and want something quick, and fast to eat outside on their large terrace or the bar area inside. On our second visit we were able to enjoy their set weekend menu priced at 10 euros even though we arrived late after 4 pm for lunch and we were allowed to sit in their elegant dining room even though they had practically finished serving there. If you like beer, ask for their Alhambra special, comes in a green, lableless bottle, it's easily the best lager found in Spain and priced at only 1 euro 80 here. In the Alicante region they charge 2 euros 50 or more for it.

"We went here for lunch on a rainy Saturday. 2 adults and 1 small child. We arrived late but still in time to have lunch – in Spain lunch is served until very late in the afternoon. Lucky us! The restaurant is cosy, and it felt warm getting in there. We were immediately seated and given some starters. Nothing memorable. After checking out the menu we realized it was vast, but they served a “combined menu” of a first dish, a second one, one drink and dessert for something like 15 euros which wasn’t bad. Being Portuguese, we’re not used to this 2 dishes system but since we have the baby we actually welcome it as we can just split everything between the 3 of us and taste more and different things. It wasn’t different here. The service was surprisingly fast which means the combined menu was a good choice as the food is usually fresh. The “migas” and the soup were very good and tasty, and the grilled meat also lived up to the expectations. We asked for pork and lamb. All very nicely cooked and in a reasonable quantity. The dessert was also to die for. Up until this point one must conclude that this was a good experience – and I won’t say it wasn’t. But it had 2 red flags, both very important for me when visiting a restaurant. The waiter was not nice. Lacked a smile on his face and instead had a face of being there doings us (customers) a huge favour. I’m not saying he was not competent but nowadays eating out is not for everyone so you should make people feel welcome and smile at the ones who pay your salary. The other red flag was that before the main dishes we asked for the famous ham “croquettes” that were very good and tasty at first but once you got to the middle section of each one of them you could feel an ice rock. They were fried in boiling oil but not enough to reach the inside of them, so the core was frozen at first, just cold after a while absorbing the heat from the rest of it. It’s really something that bothered me. This two red flags led me to complain and not leave a tip. We paid around 40 euros for this meal and were surprised when we got out and checked the receipt, we paid for all the drinks apart from the menu. This was shocking but since we had pointed out the problems I wrote above earlier we didn’t bother to return and argue anymore. It’s a pity this happened to us. We actually liked the ambience and the food."
