"Having just arrived in Torquay for the weekend we decided that the smells coming from this restaurant were too good to miss. We didn't have a booking but it was early and there was room for us.Pro'sThe food was tastyIt was reasonably pricedThe food was hotThe fish in the tank are really prettyThe staff were never far away if you needed somethingCon'sThe attention to detail was poor we only one menu for both of us and we had to rearrange the screens so that we could sit at the tableThe portions of rice and naan are poor compared to other balti restaurants curry portions were good, though. The waiter tried to clear the table before I had finished eating I very gently reminded him that this is very bad mannersThe staff circle the restaurant like planes in a holding pattern. I appreciate that they are attentive but they were making us dizzy..The fish tank needs a good clean"

Really well organised with screens up for Covid and a one way system in place. Food was beautiful. Staff were attentive. We were never left waiting for food or drinks. The whole night was perfect. Would highly recommend and will be back.

Managed to book at short notice for Saturday evening. It was busy and had to wait a long time for our food.Food was nice and felt safe due to Covid restrictions. There is a large fish tank in there which needs a good clean, sitting right next to it so not nice seeing how dirty it is.

Hailing all the way from Glasgow for a 4 day visit, we always were gonna have an Indian curry for dinner one night. Plenty indian restaurants to choose from so it was totally pot luck. Food was excellent from onion bahji starter to chicken madras and vegetarian korma for mains.one criticism was the size of naan bread, usually we have one to share, as back home they are usually the size of a dustbin lid! Here we needed one each as the portion size of the curry was lovely and big.... yes we would recommend and yes we would return here if we came back to torquay. Nice friendly and attentive staff too.

"From the off, everything was bang on point. The warmth of the welcome, being taken straight to our table and offered water and an aperitif promptly. We, a party of three, opted for the set lunch, which offers very good value for money. £29.50 for two courses, £35 for three, with two options for each course. Two of us opted for the baked Roscoff onion with pearl barley. Simple ingredients but beautifully cooked with a truly sublime brown onion sauce of such intensity, it lifted an already lovely plate of food to another level. The other person had the ponzu cured mackerel which she pronounced lovely but she had serious food envy over the onion dish. The main courses were grilled hake, which again was sauced to perfection and a grilled bavette with a vegetable medley and a pea? puree and a meat jus. We added a small dish of dauphinois at £5 which complimented everything very well. We drank a good and reasonably priced Rioja Blanco. No room for dessert sadly. This restaurant is not cheap but there is a difference between cost and value and The Elephant offers very good value with the set lunch; it allows you to sample really very good cooking at a price that will not break the bank. The normal a la carte menu is around double the price but on looking at what this offered, I would say that it again offers good value for money, being a step up in choice with more expensive ingredients. This is a serious restaurant. Go there. You will not be disappointed."
