"This restaurant is only a 5 minute drive from our house yet we had never been in the day before. We decided on lunch with our daughter. Sadly her sandwiches were very stale. I chose the mushroom linguine which was very disappointing, it was just like eating dry linguine with no flavour or sauce, just some wild mushrooms scattered through dry pasta. My husband 's crab sandwich was very basic and he described it as 'fine, nothing special. ' For dessert we had a lemon meringue pie and our daughter her jelly and ice cream. The lemon meringue if I had my eyes closed I would not have guessed had any lemon in. It was just a soft dessert with no flavour. The jelly and ice cream was basic jelly with white ice cream, the type I remember my gran buying a big tub of 20 years ago, it wasn 't vanilla or clotted cream ice cream just white flavourless ice cream. We noticed the age of everybody else dining and thought based on the previously good reviews on here it must be a restaurant for an older clientele. Soft, bland food with sadly no flavour. We were so disappointed and won 't be returning. We 'd much rather drive on an extra 5 minutes to go to Parke for lunch."

Fabulous place to eat, nothing too much trouble for the staff, best breakfast locally, and has been for many years. Great place to visit and eat.

My sister and I went for a mooch around the shop and went into the working glass room, it was lovely to see the pieces being made, we had a lovely lunch, the staff are friendly and very accommodating, we had the super coffee and soup with fab bread and butter, a really lovely visit and lunch, will definitely be back again

A lovely hidden gem of a restaurant.. We are visiting the area on holiday and came across this on Web search for restaurants within the area of Bovey Tracey. A fabulous old industrial building with lots of history and character. Plenty of parking. A wonderful meal, very tasty food and very reasonably priced.. So much so, we have booked again for for our last night before heading home...

Thank you to the staff for making our celebration breakfast just perfect! The addition of the wedding anniversary banner was a sweet touch. And thank you to the waitress/waiter for wishing us a happy day. Great breakfast as always. Well cooked food. In this year of all prices rising, we still think the set breakfasts are well priced especially as toast, orange juice and bottomless coffees are included.

Do not normally write reviews however we went for lunch for Mother’s Day which is a special occasion for us as well as all families. Very disappointed with the food and service. Roast potatoes rock hard could not eat. Beef brisket so tough. Service very poor, had to ask for cutlery after food served twice and ordered coffee we never received. Such a shame as it is a lovely place but came away very disappointed on a special day. Will not be returning to eat.

Decided to try out breakfast today as we had both been here as children with our parents, very disappointed and would not recommend. We both had the large breakfast within which we could only complement the eggs and black pudding. The fried bread tasted horrible and the bacon was so salty it didn’t taste of bacon ? The hash browns tasted like the cheap catering pack one and the sausage was very bland ! I don’t understand why you would serve a whole piece of fried bread and then also a piece of toast on the side with jam ? You only get a choice of beans or tomatoes not both ? Very stingy considering the price ! Also the filter coffee was not nice which explains why it’s free refills. Would no...

We chose to have lunch at The Old Pottery Restaurant based on a recommendation and the positive reviews posted for this restaurant; sadly however, we were very disappointed. We hadn't had crab for many years and so the locally caught Brixham crab sandwich lunch appealed. Unfortunately it fell way short of our expectations. For £16 I thought I'd get some crab meat in the sandwich, instead of which we had something more akin to crab paste, the like of which can be had cheaply from most supermarkets. The brown bread was almost too dry to consume, the portion of fries was frugal and the tomato sauce had either been watered down or was a cheap brand. The coffee was very bitter, probably over extr...

Having visited the old pottery restaurant for lunch many times as a child,as did my partner , we were excited to visit today for a child free breakfast. The combination of happy memories of delicious food for when we were children and the expensive price of the food, we were very excited. The excitement very quickly wore off when we were faced with our meal. £14.50 for a “big breakfast” which in my opinion is a standard. Ketchup so watering, I think you’d find better quality for the dirtiest food truck in the back of a dark alley. I don’t want to be a complete misery guts, the black pudding was delicious. However, the rest of the meal was extremely salty. Now, when you order breakfast you ge...

"This was our 2nd time eating in the crab shack, we booked at the beginning of the week to ensure we got a table and took the kids for an experience and the food, the staff are lovely the food is awesome, lovely place to eat however this time was a bit disappointing , asked for a beer of the menu, not available, no oysters, no mussels, no clams completely understand seafood is all seasonal so no drama, we opted to share a hot platter, (as this came with a whole lobster plus extras for only an extra £10 vs the cost of a lobster) and told they would swap the mussels and clams for extra something else as didn’t have these items. It came out with half a lobster plus the other bits promised we queried this we where told that sometimes the chef will give you a big half by weight rather than whole lobster I have never heard of this and felt more upset we where then just being lied to the table opposite also had ordered the lobster and they received whole one so I guess this must have been a small one!? They also told us we are not really telling people to order the hot platter as we don’t have much of it to which we replied this would have been nice to know when you took are order, they offered 20% off, which we agreed to even though being sat by a sign that said whole lobster £120 meaning a missing half should £60?! So I wanted to leave 2.5 stars, but don’t worry these are really big starts , like bright and weighty ones it’s basically a 5 star review?! Right?!"
