"The Olive Branch has become a favourite and we returned for my birthday lunch and a visit to the Yew Tree Avenue. We ate outside in the sunshine in one of their uniquely decorated gazebos, although the pub is lovely and full of character. Before...I go any further, I write this review because I know that they take on board our comments and strive to get better and better. There was a big lunch party in the barn, so parking was tight and we were worried about noise. We needn’t have worried as the hubbub subsided once their food was served. We ate from their “Lunch for Less” menu. Heritage tomato gazpacho with smoked creme fraiche and wild garlic and I had the pub made black pudding with apple, curried pickled onion, egg yolk and crispy pork. Both delicious although I’d have liked more of the pickle and the crispy pork. Decent size portions none the less. We both had the pan fried sea bass with cockles and prawn pearl barley in a shellfish bisque with sea vegetables, lemon and fennel. We were given a spoon for the “soup” but it was all absorbed by the pearl barley. We were expecting it in a little cup on the side... so why the spoon? Unfortunately, the sea bass was only one fillet cut between us. Not good enough when mains are over £18. Maybe they were running low, because of the big lunch in the barn? Having said that, the skin was deliciously crisp and melt in the mouth and the flavours were superb. We don’t tend to go for meals that are all protein and carbs, so it would have made our day if the sea vegetables and fennel had been much more evident or we’d been asked if we’d like other a salad on the side. As for asking, no one came back to ask if everything was alright... I had asked for the beer list to order another with the main, but we had finished it before anyone came back... may be because of the big lunch in the barn??? Next time we’ll book a different day if there’s a big lunch in the barn! The deserts were every bit as good as you’d expect. Banana pannacotta, dark chocolate mousse, hazelnut ice and Sticky toffee pudding, miso butterscotch and Guinness ice cream. I’d have been happy with just the Guinness ice cream! The birthday celebration was marked with petit fours for both of us, on a platter iced with Happy Birthday. A nice touch, thank you. A small deduction was made by us for the standard of service, which we explained, and were thanked. Hopefully on our next visit, these inconsistencies will be rectified. The Olive Branch can excel... and they do listen."

We had a wonderful lunch at the inn, with welcoming, friendly, and caring staff. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Great drinks menu including hot drinks which tend to be neglected. It’s nice to see that lots of local suppliers are involved and the quality shows.

in total really good eating. well presented with a lot of choice in the offer. definitiw a land restaurant. Unfortunately, the vegan menu was quite naked. I had the vegan brownies for dessert. they were incredibly dry and had little taste. it is a shame as it continues... proves that cities are where alternatives to milk continue to lead into the market.

Food pleasant but totally undermined by extremely poor service. No greeting welcome of note from any staff. Disinterested and glum wait staff. Plates not cleared for an extensive amount of time. Host needed to leave the table three times to direct staff to do...their actual jobs. Most unfriendly restaurant manager. No thank you on departure from any staff, despite walking by 6 staff, on exit. We are not sure anyone wants to work here not happy to work here. We are respectable guests, but would not return based on such sloppy service. £350 spend on lunch warrants impeccable service. Is this a restaurant, or a pub? It doesn’t come across as either particularly well. Shame.

We have visited the restaurant a few times but as it is a 70 mile round trip from home, we are not a regular. As we hadn’t been for a few months and wanted a good Sunday lunch out, we decided to make a visit...as it was a lovely sunny day for a drive out. We both ordered the black pudding starter which was lovely. I couldn’t decide to choose either the roast beef or the sea bass, which is my favourite. After much deliberation, I chose the sea bass. I wish I hadn’t as it was more minnow than sea bass. Most of the plate was taken up with the pearl barley with sea vegetables and bisque and a very tiny portion of sea bass. It was more like a risotto. My partner had ordered the roast beef and alt...

what happened to the olive industry? all our previous visits were so amazing experiences. sad tonight it wasn't. there was no reception at the arrival. the waitress showed on the table in the corner and said that you table. didn't even show us on our table. we have set ourselves. no service. asked for a weeping list to say ill try and find her wait 20 minutes back to say a weeping list in still trying to make her a happy for us the table next to us gave us her weeping list! we waited for everything, had to ask for everything, the empty jars were not removed until we asked the waitress fell chips and then with the fingers it was only shaking again. we had a tip to thank the chef because the e...

We stopped off for lunch on our way to London. Although close to the A1, The Olive Branch is a delightful and welcoming local pub, with a great selection of drinks (including good nonalcoholic options), which serves excellent locally sourced food. Beef and guinea fowl were succulent, with unctuous sauces, and had interesting condiments to add zing. Chips were exemplary golden and crisp exteriors with soft fluffy centres. Pasta was al dente, in a delicious sauce with excellent and unusual mushrooms. Good kale and cabbage. The coffee is great too perfect to re energise for the journey ahead. Attentive but not intrusive service. Attractive, rustic decor, with old chairs and benches softened by...

we were over for a night to celebrate our high-time anniversary. we arrived at a boiling hot summer day in juni and we loved that the place was full of rustic English landscape charm! the pub is stunning both inside and out and we. loved the relaxed garden filled with pavillons and beautiful flowers. the barmann let my man taste the beer before the choice and my homemade rhubarb gin was beautiful. it was a really perfect environment for a warm afternoon. we were attached in the chocolate suite' in the annex to the beautiful book house over the street and it was very clean and perfect for a night of the beautiful diners and drinks throughout the pub. in the evening we had drinks in the garden...

we ate here on a Saturday afternoon, it was very busy, so clearly popular. with a 12-month and a small dog we jumped ahead to make sure we had a suitable table and a high chair. we were shown to a literally right in front of the bar, where everyone passes in advance despite the reservation. I was told to park the buggy of my baby in a midday around a corner, so it wasn't in the way of the waitress. then one because later it was moved again by a waiter who said it was in her way?! the drinks and the brot were great, so for the support of the local bakery with the sharing laaf and crimped butter. but our main courses were tiny. my sea bass court was not even a filet of fish, it was pitiful. th...

Stopped by The Olive Branch on a Sunday lunchtime after being in Stamford for the weekend. I used to live in the area and remembered how nice it was and wondered if it had changed. It did not disappoint. The small car park was full but parking round the corner in the idyllic village of Clipsham isn 't a drama. The pub itself is stunning, with seating inside and out. There was a good selection of ales wines and spirits behind the bar and even had its own shop where you can purchase some of the produce sold or used in the pub. I really did not expect to get a table on a busy Sunday however the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and despite being very busy with a lot of tables visibly...
