"Having been in the industry for years and usually refraining from reviews, I find it necessary to provide honest feedback. While the exterior seemed inviting, the experience took a downturn after a warm welcome from a gentleman. The restaurant lady's rudeness and lack of hospitality, despite ample space, were disappointing. My request for a kids roast at 6 pm on a quiet Sunday, admittedly cheeky, was met with a flat-out refusal, missing an opportunity to avoid food waste. Opting for an adult Sunday roast at £18, my wife received a portion barely distinguishable from a child's, and it arrived cold. My child's freshly microwaved meatball pasta was fine, except for the mouth burn during tasting. Disheartened by the subpar roast, my wife tried the £25 sticky toffee pudding for two courses £7 for the dessert), only to receive a thin, cold slice with ice cream being the highlight. During bill settlement, our host, seemingly aware of the poor experience, didn't inquire about the food quality. In summary, this review serves as a cautionary note about the establishment's overpricing, poor service, and cold dishes. Given our experience, it wouldn't be surprising if the place faces closure. It's disheartening, considering our initial hopes for a more satisfying experience. I hope this honest review is taken constructively for potential improvements."

I used to love this place and visited it often, but I'm not sure what's changed. The quality of the food is no longer what I remember from my previous visits. The location is still a 5 out of 5. View menu

Room booked for trip back up to Aberdeenshire. Lovely suite, aspiring French style. Huge bathroom. Dining super. Great food big portions. Big car park. Clean and welcoming. One of the nicest little places have stayed, breakfast just superb quality and quantity. Drinks service was slow but kept prompting young lady sure could have been more on ball on this only.

I met my family here on our way back south, and the restaurant is conveniently located close to the M6. We enjoyed a meal for six, and the place has a lovely country pub atmosphere. Even though it was busy, the tables were well spaced out, so it never felt overcrowded. We brought two dogs with us and were seated at a nice table in the corner without any issues. The menu was excellent; most of our group opted for a hearty Sunday roast, while I had the pasta, which was decent. The staff were fantastic, and overall, it was a nice dining experience. View menu

Came across this pub/restaurant as we were passing through the area. We have been visiting the Lake District for several days and this was the best meal we have had since visiting. It was so homely and the service was brilliant. Sophia was our waitress and she was so accommodating and helpful. I ordered a glass of wine which I did not quite like (my fault) and she really went out of her way to help find me something that suited my taste buds. She was so helpful and polite and I would highly recommend a visit to this pub and to top it off.. they do cherry Bakewell tart which hardly any restaurants do for dessert!

Absolutely beautiful plates and lovely flavours for our 2 daily specials. Service was reasonably quick 18:45 table and place only a third full) and was friendly. My wife was very pleased with her Feather Blade of beef, bone marrow crumble, parsnips, potato, celeriac puree and kale. Quantity was acceptable, though far from generous at £28. My choice of Stonebass was a very meaty fish and, I gather from later research, a rare one to see probably justifying the £29. The sauce was lukewarm but tasty. 7 balls of saffron potato were served hard the server said that was how they are supposed to be) and 5 small mussels, deep fried in breadcrumbs, were a nice texture change. I would have liked a lot...

"We were sure to book ahead for a table of 4 for 5.15 as it was a late Sunday roast we were fully aware that not everything would be available so it was no surprise when we were told that there was only gammon left for the roast option however there was still fish and chips homemade steak pie or vegetable lasagne. We happily opted for 3 gammon roast dinners and a homemade steak pie with mash (you get the choice of which potato you'd like) The food arrived piping hot with plenty of everything and it was so so tasty you could really tell everything was lovingly made from scratch for the roast the potatoes came both roasted and mashed with cauliflower, broccoli and carrot and swede mash. A generous helping of gammon and a large Yorkshire pudding with gravy that was clearly made with the juices as it was so flavourful. The steak pie was brilliant too homemade with large chunks of steak and a choice of potato and whether you'd like the same veg as that with the roast or with peas. This also came with gravy. For dessert there was a choice of either chocolate fudge cake, caramel apple pie or sticky toffee pudding and you had the choice of either cream, ice cream or custard. 2 of us got it with custard and 2 of us got it with ice cream and it wasn't overbearingly sweet it was perfect with a delicious caramel top! We all thoroughly enjoyed all the food and the drinks and service and will be back again one day if we find ourselves holidaying here again"
