"On Saturday evening, we decided to grab a few beers at this restaurant. Despite many reserved tables in the bar area, we found a table for four that was not taken. The table was perfect for our group of four adults and a five-year-old. We confirmed with the bar staff that it was okay for us to use the table. However, after about 20 minutes, a staff member asked us to move to a smaller table for two, as a couple wanted to dine there. We suggested that the couple could use the smaller table for two, while we needed the larger one for our group of five. Unfortunately, we were still asked to move to the smaller table. The staff member was very rude to us. We are local customers and will be informing all our friends and acquaintances to avoid this place in the future."

I'm not exactly sure how we found this place, I think it was recommended by a family member who lives near. (I use the quotes because Americans have a

The Plough is open again, now managed by Lindsey and Richard, who previously ran The Hovingham Inn and Raskills. I'm thrilled to see them back in Ryedale at this charming country pub that welcomes dogs. Their Sunday lunch is fantastic—it's hard to find anything better! View menu

We had an incredible Sunday lunch at this restaurant. The food was unbelievably delicious. It was wonderful to see Richard and Lindsey back in action, doing what they do best! The price per person was between £30-40. Food, service, and atmosphere all received a rating of 5.

Excellent experience! They prepared a gluten-free meal that was safe for someone with celiac disease, even though it wasn’t on the regular menu. The chef is incredibly attentive, so be sure to ask for wine recommendations in advance and savor your time here. This place is truly fantastic!

We had a delightful Sunday lunch with a traditional yet upscale atmosphere. My husband’s soup was exquisite, and my salmon starter was just as impressive. Both the beef and pork dishes were wonderful. We opted for the wine pairings, and we enjoyed every one of them. For dessert, we shared the chocolate pot, which was a solid 10 out of 10. The selection of gins was intriguing, including one flavored with squid ink. It sounds unappealing, but it was quite nice. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and hope to return to try the evening menu. The service was excellent as well.

beautiful, clean village pub. dog-friendly. who loved our vizsla. the staff welcomed us and gave us a very friendly, warm greeting. local all friendly and a great atmosphere of discussion and laugh. that was great. the steak pee was fabulous. more like a huge pork cake to see full of bark meat, served with a huge crug of wein gravy and perfectly boiled veg. hard fish was also amazing. on lemon roasted potato, saphir and leaves. the pesto style crust on the fish was very delicious. chips on the side. the only bit that is not homemade (shame). to find such a pub with a talented cook and a great service is nowadays a rare thing. will definitely be back.

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
