"To manage one 's expectations, I would describe Robata as Japanese inspired rather than authentic Japanese food. To summarise, the service was good and the food was okay. Here are the pros and cons: Pros The waiting staff was attentive and gracious, even though 2 of our guests were VERY late. I really commend them for their patience. Service was fast. The waiting staff was well versed in allergens and there were plenty of dairy free and gluten free options The interior was quirky and reminded me of Japanese manga meets art nouveau which I liked very much! The general ambience and music were upbeat I can imagine Robata being a good option for pre going out dinner with friends or a casual first date, but some may find it a bit loud for intimate dinners The sake mojito was delicious! Cons The traditional Japanese menu items including sushi rolls and sashimi did not perform strongly. The robatayaki skewer items (Robata 's name sake) were better, but unfortunately did not steal my heart I felt the flavours and seasoning were too strong for my palate and this genre of food Neutral Observations The menu was eclectic with a mixture of Japanese (sushi, robatayaki) Korean (kimchi rice), Peruvian (ceviche) and other foods (I 'm not sure where tartare originates). There were some open 'bao ' options, which were some Asian inspired hot fillings wrapped in a flat piece of steamed bun. Personally, I 'm not a fan but I 've encountered this in a few restaurants in London so this seems to be a popular concept in recent times. Who knows? "

This is a really cute spot for people craving their Japanese fix, but not wanting to spend an arm and a leg. It was all really tasty but it cannot be compared to the likes of sushi samba, roka etc for obvious reasons. Having said that, it’s a really enjoyable meal and the quality in my opinion reflects the price!

Wonderful atmosphere and alright service. Unfortunately they served us raw karage and when there are only 4 pieces it kind of turns you off the whole thing. Otherwise the food was alright but in my opinion not worth the premium cost. I will say that the hay fried beef was delicious. Your mileage may vary but I’d recommend other spots nearby.

This place is fantastic! The service was excellent, attentive, and quick. They forgot to bring us some rolls, but once we were full, they gave them to us in a takeaway bag on the house. The food was amazing, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. They could easily add £3-5 to any dish and it would still be a great value. I will definitely be back! View menu

Absolutely stunning! The atmosphere is beautiful, and the food is exceptional. Highlights for us included the garden tempura rolls and the lamb breast. The cocktails were also amazing; we enjoyed caipirinhas with strawberries and passion fruit. A special shoutout to Rianna, whose service was as impressive as the food. She was wonderfully engaging, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. Overall, a fantastic experience!

We came here for my birthday. The highlight was the sushi, amazingly good along with the gyoza. The skewers were good but overpriced in our opinion. The attention and service were really nice. The only criticism we would say is that the tuna tartar and the beef tataki had too much pepper for our taste and for some reason the skewers took a bit more time than expected (nothing too bad). Thanks for the birthday ice cream mochi!

My friend and I were in need of a quick and delicious snack and had heard great things about Robata. We were delighted with our meal and can’t wait to return to try the tasting menus! We ordered a few dishes and some Bao Backs, and everything was excellent. The staff was friendly and had a wonderful sense of humor, and the atmosphere of the room had a lovely glow. It’s a fantastic addition to Old Compton Street, and I highly recommend it! View menu

it was a great experience. the food was absolutely delicious, but it was crowded and there was hardly any space between tables. They always ask for a standard table, never high top because they are those who feel like eating with the couple next to them. that means we really enjoyed everything, but the temporary were the best for me. each plate had its own personality and they were all very special, I would not change the environment. we're probably coming back, but a more calm time!

Great service and good food. Thoroughly enjoyed the bao buns chose crab and they were delicious (also a fun challenge to eat due to the sheer size). The charcoal meat was good. Not keen on the dumplings as they got quite wet didn’t personally enjoy them sitting in condiments. Pleased with the panna cotta dessert. Would also like to emphasise the service of one particular person who was kind enough to first check that the plates were finished with before taking them away this was greatly appreciated and saved the awkwardness of most other experiences where meals are taken away before being finished.
