"This is the probably the best bar/restaurant in Whitstable. You can have a drink here before eating elsewhere with recommendations from the great staff or stay for a scrumptious meal in the bar or restaurant. The food and service are second to none. We had a lovely lunch without breaking the bank which isn’t easy in Whitstable. We had drinks another evening in a relaxed bar. Yes it’s only for children over 12 years (replying to the petulant comment below) but as a mother and grandmother it’s nice sometimes just to have a meal or drink without the little ones. I can’t recommend the Royal Naval Reserve enough. Thank you to the lovely staff and owners. We will definitely be back!"

Went in after having had a meal elsewhere. Really nice atmosphere, friendly owners and enjoyed playing Jenga over a nice bottle(s) of wine.

A female solo traveller, I enjoyed my lovely cold Singa beer, felt safe and welcome by Jack and his team. I watched the world go by, and had another!

Great food at sensible prices. We had Ploughman's with pork pie and Ploughman's with pate. We were also greedy and had a portion of chips. Couldn't eat it all.

Popped in for a drink with the family and was abruptly told that under 12's were not allowed, we turned around and left!! Not handled well and the place was very quiet at the time!! View menu

We were walking around Whitstable town and fancied a bite so popped into this establishment. We ended up sitting in the garden area and was surprised how big this building is inside . We ordered a cheese ploughman’s and a tuna sweet corn sandwich and drinks .The service was quick and the food excellent quality.

My Father and I visited this pub last week for a meal. We both loved the pub decor and the lovely garden outside. Both our meals were amazing, and the wine was excellent . What really made this place was the lovely Laura and her team of helpful staff. We got chatting to them and had a really good evening in there. It was obvious they were all genuinely nice people who went above and beyond to make their guests welcome. Each customer was welcomed once through the door and also were bidded farewell . We cannot wait to return! Thank you for a really good evening.

"After never visiting Canterbury before we where looking for somewhere to have a late lunch, we came across this place which looked ok, upon entering the back room we were offered to take a seat in the front area and someone will be with us. We asked what food there was and we where sarcastically shown the food on the blackboard, after choosing what we wanted the polite man went off and put the order in. We did feel that because the man had asked a couple of questions to another member of staff that he was spoke down too a bit. Anyway after placing the order and what we wanted the food came out it wasn’t correct but because it seemed like we were going to interrupt the people in the back room we just took what we had. It was nice food though. When we went to pay we hadn’t noticed that there wasn’t a price list so when we asked for the bill we were told that it was donation, what we thought was enough, it wasn’t posted anywhere and it took us by surprise as we where standing at the till, I was going to pay in cash but was told they don’t take cash so I had to give my donation in card by telling the person how much we where donating. After plucking a figure out of air as we wasn’t prepared we paid and left. Upon leaving we felt that the person we paid thought we hadn’t paid enough and wasn’t happy with the amount but after working out what we would have paid properly we worked out that we had paid more than what it might have been if there was a proper price on everything. Overall it has a great ethos and it’s great for giving people the experience that they need to be in a working environment but they need to show the price or tell customers first that it’s donations and card only."
