"Fun Friday with fresh fish. Tried Sam's on a Friday evening. They don't take reservations and the place was packed but we decided to brave the 45 minute wait for a table based on the enthusiasm (and honesty) of the greeting we received. We waited in the cocktail bar upstairs (also packed .... 15 minutes before a seat was available). I make the points about the waiting and the seats so that you expect it, and so that you're not put off by it, because the food is worth waiting for. Between us we tried grilled mackerel, pan seared scallops, grilled sardines and grilled chicken with bacon. All were cooked beautifully, were ample portions and came with refreshing salads and crusty bread. Our server was attentive and enthusiastic and the front of house manager (who'd greeted us when we arrived) followed up with us a couple of times during the meal to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and had everything we needed, then shouted a goodbye and thank you from the far end of the restaurant as we left. Genuine enthusiastic staff, good service, fun atmosphere and nicely cooked food."

Fab fab fab food, staff everything! You may wait awhile for a table as they don’t take bookings but it is well worth it. Returned several times over the years 10/10 from us a family of 4 (2 tricky hard to please teenager girls!!

superb, untreated eating that is based on the taste of the food and not on rich sauces and flavors, a serious good mood, really friendly staff throughout and not in their face unmarried service. all in fowey! simply the most pleasant place to eat. we would visit more often, but like a menu change, otherwise we would be there every week, especially in winter. beautiful place, a walkable (no bookings) bistro type location and a music and film memorabilia sky. the whole food was freshly cooked with speed of light. we had served the seafood festival for 2, sardine, garnel, calamari and mush with crust bread to mix the fleet of the mushes and salat. perfect. high quality standard food. will definitely return when we are back in the opposite

Sam's on the beach. A last minute find for a Sunday night. Always a tricky night if you dont want a roast dinner or an empty restaurant. Neither of those problems we had here, actually im glad I booked as all the tables were full. We had the veggie antipasti to share for starters a great little mezze of bits. Next the seafood platter to share, they ran out of scallops so we had some more tiger prawns. The platter is huge and comes with a bowl of mussels and clams. Nothing quite beats a Cornish mussel they were melting in our mouths! Great little restaurant, fresh fish and view out to sea as the sun goes down. Couldn't ask for more!

"My girlfriend and I dined at this restaurant on a Monday evening, which is not typically a busy day. However, we arrived at 6:30pm and it was the last available table! The front of house manager greeted us warmly and handled a small issue with our reservation effortlessly. We were seated in a cozy area and offered drinks while our table was prepared. We quickly received glasses of Prosecco along with the menus, and they asked about any allergies—I mentioned my dairy intolerance which they noted. Soon after, we were led to our table with a beautiful view of the estuary, where our wine was waiting. A lovely amuse bouche and bread (with butter and oil for me) were served to start. My partner enjoyed a sweet potato foam, while I had a smoked salmon and caper dish (dairy-free). Both were delicious. Our smoked mackerel starters were equally delightful, one with a dairy foam and one without. Our main courses arrived in a timely manner and were both beautifully presented—roast cod for me and chicken breast for my partner. The dishes were all delicious. We finished our meal with an Irish coffee and a panna cotta, both of which were superb. Overall, it was an outstanding dining experience with impeccable service. Many Michelin-starred restaurants could take notes from the Old Quay House. We can't wait to return.
