"I’ve never known a pub be so anti customer. The £5 minimum spend is very outdated so people have to spend more if they don’t have the cash, in this day and age it’s not good enough. The food is genuinely good, but I would say that the obvious revolving door of management is either down to a terrible owner or it really just is that unmanageable. I’ve seen that the online presence seems to fluctuate, which can only be down to changing management. This unfortunately then has an effect on the quality of service from staff… I’ve been in a few times now and during the day there really isn’t any level of warmth to be had, I’d rather sit outside in the wind than have to listen to the chunterings of someone that clearly doesn’t want to be there. I was in one day time and I’d over heard a man shouting at someone for charging their mobile phone. The customer had obviously bought a beer from the bar, so what’s the issue? I was shocked to see it was the landlord that was sat there drinking ale shouting at this customer. Not very professional and highly cantankerous. I’d like to give it more than 2 out of 5, but I genuinely feel like the atmosphere and any ‘good time’ to be had is marred by staff and ownership that really need to know more about customer service. Perhaps one exception when I spoke with one man that was very pleasant. He had long hair tied back and knew how to speak to customers. Shame nobody else can learn from that. Happy to try the place again with it being the only pub in the area. I travel from Manchester to work here once every couple of months, so not totally awful if you’re just swinging by."

Overall lovely meal, good service, helpful and polite staff. Only criticism is the chicken burgers could have been crispier and with less sauce and relishes/cheese as it was a little overloaded and made the texture a bit too mushy.

Service was slow even though not many in restaurant. Food was good though no complaints from us on that! However, it was so cold in the restaurant I was glad to get home to warm up we sat right next to a beautiful fire that was not lit! Will go back but only in warmer weather!

I came to the swan and cygnet for the first time on Sunday for there Sunday lunches. I had the regular lamb dinner and it looked delicious, the Yorkshire pudding was huge. It was a great value for money. My wife had the prawn bisque linguine and it looked amazing! I would definitely recommend here for food and will be returning again!

This is my local. How lucky am I ? Not only is it a very friendly local pub, it also serves fantastic food. Myself, the other half and her parents popped in for lunch today and boy it was good. I’ve had main meals before and the food is excellent with a very good portion. Today we settled on sandwiches with chips. Delicious. I went for the chargrilled steak in a sourdough roll. It had onions too and triple cooked chips. The steak was perfect and melted in the mouth. The others had BLT or ham salad and they loved them. Add to this that the beer is always good and you can’t go wrong View menu

We visited for Sunday dinner and were met with a warm welcome and quickly shown to our table and served drinks. There was no vegetarian option for Sunday dinner but I am happy with vegetables roasties and Yorkshire puddings so ordered this, my husband had chicken. The Yorkshire puddings are huge. However, on paying the bill a plate of vegetables is the same price as a full roast dinner with meat!!! All other pubs and restaurants either have a veggie option (mushroom Wellington, caramelised onion and cheese tart) or reduce the price accordingly, something that could be considered. All in all nice food and pleasant staff.

From booking to leaving we had a great experience. Booking: suggested to arrive a little earlier than we originally suggested as there were two large parties already booked in and would be busy a big tick from me! Mains: Sunday lunches all round. Meat nice lean cuts and plenty of it. Veg, good selection and nicely cooked (not boiled to within an inch of it life! , roasted potatoes and Yorkshire puds all equally nicely cooked. All piping hot including the gravy!! Puds: All lovely.... particularly the pear and blackberry crumble with custard! Service: polite, prompt, attentive without being in your face. Cost: £25pp for two courses including drinks.... say no more. First Sunday Lunch we've bee...

Very disappointing experience. The food is expensive in comparison to similar places and does not live up to the price. I expected hot, well cooked, tasty food. The food took a while to arrive, even though it was quiet. My steak pie was much anticipated but the meat was chewy and dry with not enough gravy. The “ triple cooked” chips weren’t! They just looked so unappetising! They were undercooked, anaemic and tasted stale as if par cooked then put aside for a too long period of time. No crispy exterior and unctuous soft centres here!!!!! Dessert? I had a strange concoction of rock hard pastry tart case that took some breaking, filled with toffee sauce and mushy, watery apple sauce, then stra... View menu

I used to enjoy dining at this restaurant, but my recent experience left much to be desired. My family and I were greeted warmly by staff, but we noticed that the restaurant was not as busy as usual, with many empty tables. Despite the initial good service, things went downhill from there. We were informed that they had run out of fish cakes, so we opted for the peppers from the specials menu, which were tasty. However, my feta flatbread did not resemble the one advertised. The Sunday roasts were average, with the vegetarian option consisting only of vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. The portions were small for the price. My children's beef was fatty in parts, while my husband's pork was ser...

DO NOT GO! Went there yesterday 21/1/24 for a family meal. I can honestly say that it was the worst pub meal that we have experienced in our entire lives! We arrived on time to find no one available to serve us. So we found a suitable table and settled down. 20 minutes later no one had come to take our order. So I had to go to the bar to get someone to organise it. We ordered drinks at the same time and waited for our meals. At this point we had been there over half an hour without drinks. When the meals came (all Sunday roasts) the drinks came a few minutes later. We all ordered the gravy to be separate. When the meal arrived the only item hot where the roast potatoes! The gravy was just of...
