"Gorgeous Birthday Afternoon Tea! What a fabulous treat, everything homemade so delicious especially the scones sandwiches! Such a pretty tea shop beautifully decorated. Our table was gorgeous with pretty teacups saucers all laid out ready to use. Staff very welcoming smily. We visited the Ritz in London 2 weeks ago told the staff this was so much more enjoyable! Thank you for making my daughters birthday so enjoyable."

Visited on a quiet afternoon and both had eggs Benedict with Salmon. Got to say it was absolutely perfect. In addition the flat white was flavourful without being overly strong or thick. Blown away to actually come out and not feel seen off.

We had a truly wonderful lunch at this tearoom. It was not very crowded and the service was excellent. We had seating right by the canal, which was a beautiful touch. The food was incredibly fresh and traditional. This spot is a must-visit for both tourists and locals. View menu

We were recommended to this absolute gem by my friend’s sister as a treat for my friend’s birthday, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. It sits right on the backs of the canal, on the edge of the public library car park in Newbury, with outdoor seating and lots of swans

The restaurant is conveniently located near plenty of parking options and offers outdoor seating by the canal for a pleasant dining experience in warmer weather. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, and the interior and exterior of the restaurant are beautifully designed.

wow! a real, traditional tee shop with modern twist. a “Gate to Try” is cheese with chili jam and cream cheese. it looks like a traditional cream tea, but the jam has a kick. the homemade suppe is delightful and cheerful today it was tomaten basilikum. visit worth, after the visit, after the visit. Beautiful location but pricey. It has been a while since I last visited this charming restaurant by the canal. I frequent cafes in Newbury often, but this one is notably expensive. Charging £5 for a slice of cake and £17 for 2 slices of cake, a tea, and a latte. It is a lovely spot for tourists, but as a local, I prefer to support one of the many other independent cafes in the area.

After a relaxing walk along the canal path, the Teashop is perfectly placed with plenty of outdoor seating and a great range of cakes, brunch dishes, teas and coffees. We enjoyed a coffee and cake watching the comings and goings on the canal. We were impressed by the excellent service, fast but also very friendly. We are not local, but would definitely revisit if we were in Newbury again.

"We came here on a Sunday afternoon for a Birthday dinner and was very disappointed. We have come here multiple times over the years and the service and food were always great. This time however was completely different. As soon as we arrived for our reservation we were met (eventually) by someone who I assume was the Manager, he went off to prepare our table and then did something else. We were left waiting in the entrance for nearly 10 minutes before someone else took us over. We were sat at the back of the place by ourselves and felt totally ignored the whole time. Probably because we had a baby and pushchair with us, whereas the table next to us that kept ordering wine got all the attention. The Manager was also joking with them about driving home which was not appropriate given how much they had all drank. We all ordered the rib eye steak as medium and all of us ended up with different cuts and variations of cooking. The rib eye was awful and none of us finished as it was fatty and full of gristle. We also asked 3 different people for water for the table and only when I stood up and found someone did we get any. When we were all done we were waiting for the bill which never came so we all got up and walked to the front counter. It should be pointed out that we could easily have walked out as most of the staff were sat around eating their dinner (one girl with her feet literally on the table). Unless this place gets much better service and food quality I would strongly suggest avoiding."
