"One word, TERRIBLE! My wife and I decided to try here as reviews seemed ok. What a mistake. Firstly my wife asked for a Sauvignon Blanc only to be told non was available, how does a pub run out of a popular wine! Several items on the food menu were unavailable which was a surprise as the place was almost empty. We decided on the chicken katsu burger with skin on chips and slaw. Expecting a fresh chicken fillet, cooked to perfection, katsu sauce, with the afore mentioned 'skin on ' fries but, what actually arrived was a world away from expectations. The 'skin on ' chips were deep fried frozen chips, swimming in grease and absent of 'skin '. The chicken, if you could call it that, as it appeared to be deep fried, breaded mush, lacked any resemblance or taste of chicken. The service was lacking and unattentive with private conversations amongst the staff being more important than the needs of the paying customer. On the whole, a terrible experience and would definitely NOT recommend."

Fantastic!!! Popped in on our 1st night of our 3 week motorhome trip and enjoyed amazing food and great service at this extremely busy pub/restaurant. Turned out to be one of our very best meals. Highly recommend, superb!

The menu is extensive, but could do with some more vegan choice. My steak and kidney pudding was the besst I have ever had. Superb service and great choice of beverages We plan to go back for a Sunday Carvery very soon This is one of the best eateries I have visited in a long while

I highly recommend this place. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent. We stayed overnight in Devon for a funeral, and they went above and beyond to ensure our experience was smooth and relaxing. I look forward to returning to Devon and would definitely stay here again. I have just come in from a meal at The Blue Ball Inn for my 51st birthday and it was lovely, I had the Fresh crab salad and it was very yummy loads of bread and butter to go with the very large amount of crab on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and diced cucumber and for dessert I had the toffee pudding with clotted cream, just perfect, the staff were very good and it was a pleasure, I very much intend to visit very soon again :

The cauliflower cheese side was disappointingly small, with a watery sauce that lacked any cheesy flavor. One of my friends ordered the chicken but didn’t enjoy it and ended up leaving half of it on the plate. Throughout our meal, no one checked in to see how we were doing, and the staff appeared indifferent. On a positive note, the desserts were lovely; however, by then the quality of service had already declined. Given the high price of the meal, we were disappointed with both the quality of the food and the service. That said, the interior of the pub was charming, featuring beams and an open fire in a picturesque countryside setting.

"We visited Sidmouth on 19th July with my wife's god-daughter and her sister. Having spent some time on the beach we wanted to have a meal and The Mocha was right in front of us so we decided to eat there. The menu said that they were serving up to 3pm and we went in at 2.50 so we all quickly made our choices and I went up to the counter to order, arriving at 2.55. There was one elderly gentleman in front of me buy a coffee. However the server seemed to be having some trouble making the order and then the gentleman had some issues making his payment resulting in my arrival at the counter at 3.01, literally 3.01, one minute past 3pm, only to be told they weren't taking any more food orders as it was past 3pm. I argued that I had been in the queue for six minutes and that I would have ordered before 3pm if they hadn't taken so long to sort one coffee order out but to no avail. The member of staff in question was very abrupt to the point of being rude and it was quite clear she could not be bothered to take our order as other staff were dashing around clearing tales and it may have resulted in the staff having to wait for us to finish our meal before they could close up. If they are not going to accept orders up to 3pm then they shouldn't state this on the menu and I have never been in a restaurant or cafe where they refuse to take an order which would have exceeded £60 after I had joined a queue before the closing time. They are lucky they can afford to turn away over £60's worth of business. The customer service here was zero and would not recommend visiting a place where the staff are so rude or so unhelpful."
