"We went for an afternoon lunch today. We ordered the cheese and pickle sandwich I have never paid for such awful food. The bread was stale and the cheese was grated cheddar that was so dry it was obviously pre grated and there was so little of it didn’t even cover the surface of the bread. There was a slab of pickle and some random onions. My partner had the falafel wrap and that was so bad it’s not even worth my time explaining why so bad. Absolute day light robbery. So disappointed as this used to be a good pub stop for a walk. Our drinks came in filthy, stained and scratched glasses and the coke was nearly flat. How u can take peoples money for food this bad I have no idea. You’re literally just taking peoples money and ruining their day."

"It really helps when your on holiday to have the HappyCow app, together with doggiepubs app we picked this pub for lunch because of its previous review and the tempting sounding vegan separate menu. Sure enough they were very welcoming suggesting the uncarpeted areas for our pooch to sit. The separate vegetarian/vegan menu had about 4 vegan options for mains, I chose the quinoa burger in bun with French fries, with additional chilli sauce. Very nice just the right amount of spice. Two options for dessert ice cream or chocolate coconut torte, the torte was gorgeous very rich but great with the vanilla ice cream. They also had a great beer garden."

"5 of us went to the tea rooms expecting to have breakfast but arrived 15 minutes to late and was told breakfast was over and that’s fine but, one friend asked if she could have a poached egg on toast only to be told the chef would have turned the water off now ??? But she could have fried egg instead this was refused as she doesn’t eat fried food. In the end we had tea and toasted tea cakes, well I say toasted but to be honest they were hardly toasted and stone cold. The waitress who took our order returned to the counter and it was obvious that she was talking about us as the other waitress she spoke to turned round to look at us, both obviously saw that I knew this and turned away very quickly, when our tea came another friend had to asked for her cup to be changed as it was dirty. From the outside the tea rooms looks lovely but inside was it was very cold, it was so cold everyone in there sat with their coats on. There was only one ladies toilet inside available for 5 people waiting as the other cubicle was out of order, the toilet was on an angle and very low and the floor could do with a good clean as could the outside toilet. All in all we will not return to this tea room if we return next year."

"Burley Manor has a lovely setting and great views outside and inside the restaurant. We went for Sunday lunch and the food was generally good but they didn't get some details right. The bread accompanying the terrine and potted salmon starters was so thin and crispy that it was quite difficult to eat. Some of the vegetables and Yorkshire puds were burnt. The desserts had creme fraiche added instead of clotted cream and had to be sent back, at which point the waitress came over repeatedly to ask why we had sent the food back and what we actually wanted, rather than apologising and sorting the problem. It looked like a good value meal, but won't be going back."

"Restaurant was booked as a birthday meal purely based on proximity to the rest of the day's activities. Mistake number 1 was not coming here to read previous reviews, as the majority of the recent ones seem to share the same sentiment. To note, neither the bar nor the restaurant were busy, and the staff numbers seemed more than ample for the amount of patrons. One of our drinks (on a table of two) had to be ordered twice. Even then it took 20 minutes to arrive. Not the end of the world but begins to set the tone. We ordered steaks. One rare, one medium rare. One with the regular fries swapped with truffle fries. To note, the other food coming out looked incredible, but if you're going to offer a steak, at a restaurant where it's also one of the most expensive items on the menu, you'd like it to be cooked the way you asked. The wrong fries came at first. The rare was closer to medium. The medium rare was almost well-done. Of course, you can allow a small margin for error, but if you're going to ask how you'd like your steak cooked, you'd assume that you're being asked because it will be cooked that way. The steaks were discreetly pointed out to be overcooked, so they were taken away, but not before three different waitresses asked why. One came back to ask how we'd like it cooked, as the chef assured her they were cooked correctly. I had secondhand embarrassment for her that she'd even come back to the table to ask the question and in that way after already having informed the previous two that it was overcooked and not simply that they weren't cooked to our liking. The fries remained and, of course, other patrons arrived so their food was prioritised. Rightly or wrongly is a matter of opinion, but if a table had half of a meal at their table, as a chef and a waitress, I'd like to think the other half would be served in good enough time to allow a whole meal to be eaten together at the same temperature. Another 20 minutes later, another 2 overcooked steaks arrived. A waitress came to do a courtesy check and watched me cut off half of what I was served into a pile of fat. I also showed her that it still wasn't rare, but ensured her that I wasn't going to send it back again. She looked mortified, her face apologetic and she stated that she'd leave us to eat but come and discuss it once our meal was done. Once said meal was done, we politely declined to see the dessert menu. One of the waitresses put the bill on our table as she was walking past, and told us to pay at the bar. Since politeness isn't a job requisite, I didn't expect her to be, but I also didn't expect her delivery to be so rude. On the way out, we came to realise our umbrella had also been misplaced or stolen. Nobody seemed to know where it went, nor cared. One star awarded because the chairs were comfortable."
