"Busy, busy pub, shame it's not twice the size. We visited the pub on a couple of occasions, the first time it was packed and looked like it would be a long wait for a table so we left and went elsewhere. We returned the following night but a little bit earlier, it was still very busy and all the tables were taken. We decided to have a drink ad wait for a table, which was about 15 minutes. SERVICE: Very polite and friendly staff who were all very busy but still engaged with the customers. Very efficient. FOOD: We ordered the Goulash and Pie. Both were very tasty and enjoyable, we would order the same again. A staff member checked to make sure that everything was ok a few minutes after receiving our meals. DRINKS: Good choice of beers (ales) and spirits. ATMOSPHERE: Lovely vibe, the place is alive with chatting and plenty of friendly dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look forward to visiting again."

Great pub, always busy which is a pretty good indication of how popular it is. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Goulash a winner

Lovely lunch time meal. We had the steak and ale pie and the goulash, both were delicious! Dog friendly pub too which was handy (although it seems most places are nowadays)!

We had to queue 10 minutes before opening time but we weren't disappointed! The family all ate well and enjoyed what was served. Nearly 16 years since eating my last goulash and tasted as good as I remember.

Called in for lunch as we always do on our annual visit to the Lakes. As always a friendly welcome even if you’re wet through. Had the obligatory Goulash which we’ve had every time we visit. It was excellent, it never changes. Already looking forward to next years visit. View menu

Have been coming to this pub for years and it never disappoints. Brilliant atmosphere, lots of friendly customers with their lovely dogs. The staff are always efficient and really welcoming. Would wholeheartedly recommend the goulash if you are passing by, it is a fantastic dish to have on a cold day after a muddy walk.

Finally managed to get a table at this popular pub when in Keswick on Holiday. It has a great range of beers/ales and lovely food which we all enjoyed and the goulash was excellent as always. The large version is huge so beware unless you have a big appetite like me. Staff are also good and really helpful so see you next year if we come to Keswick.

We stopped by this old pub for a meal after a long walk around the lake. It was very crowded and we had to wait a while for a table, but it was well worth the wait! The pub is famous for its Goulash and rightly so.....there is also a varied menu if Goulash is not your thing. An excellent range of beers including Old Peculiar! Great staff and friendly atmosphere. Well worth a visit ......but go early to grab a table!! View menu

We called in after a days walking having had the pub recommended by friends and the landlady of our BnB. The atmosphere and beer selection was amazing. Well kept Guinness and a very smooth Borrowdale bitter. However; the Goulash was very poor, having returned earlier this year from Hungary, we were so disappointed, The potatoes were old/ had that heated up taste. Sauce was far to acidic- all tomatoes and no paprika. Two tinned button mushrooms. Loads of dry meat. Small tender dumpling… best part of it… but very small. and one thin slice of barely toasted garlic bread. People on the next table were equally unimpressed with their Hunters chicken … how can any pub claim to serve great food when...

My husband and I used to be regulars here before lockdown, the staff are friendly and the food is great, however since we got our 2 pups we’ve only had the odd pint sat outside. Our terrier is no bother at all, but our GSP is a very nervous dog and sometimes barks at strangers when inside (never outside with no malice, just fear! . Last week we decided to take the plunge and have lunch at our favourite pub in Keswick, the dogs were generally good but when the server came with our food the pointer did bark at him when he was close to the table; he handled it brilliantly, crouched down to her level and let her sniff him, then brought them a dog biscuit each to show he was a friend! Thank you y...

"I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money."
