"Sunday lunch, drinks, roasts and dessert. Food a little overpriced but basically good quality. Staff welcoming on arrival. Main criticism was we felt 'chased ' by a waitress who kept coming to table and asking if we had finished when clearly two of us were still midway eating our roast. After the third time of doing this within a short window it became very annoying and spoiled our visit. Restaurant was not busy and we were well within our two-hour allocation for a party of 2-4 people. A party of sixteen were arriving as we left but that 's no excuse. Hesitant to go for lunch again."

Had Sunday lunch with the family. It was all lovely as always. I had to make a last minute call to add an extra person to our table and they couldn’t have been more helpful or accommodating. One of our favourite pubs. View menu

We come to this wonderful pub often!! Always outstanding food, service, ambience. Sometimes it can be a little noisy if there are big groups in at the same time. Service is always quick and staff are very friendly and helpful.

Lovely venue, excellent service with knowledgable manager who greeted us warmly and knew all the dishes and drinks. Impressive ! Unfortunatelyt, I can't recall his name. Bih hairy gentleman. Great good humour. Excellent choice of mains and desserts. Thank you. We'll be back for sure

We always enjoy our visits to The Duke William. The service is friendly, efficient and effortless; the team have a nice ease about them. They are attentive without being annoying. We were here on Sunday and five of the party had a roast lunch. Everything on the plate was cooked perfectly, my only criticism is that there wasn’t enough veg. We had one carrot and some savoy cabbage. View menu

Normally we love this place, the setting is fantastic and the kids play park gives you a welcome break. On this occasion the food was a little average and for the price we were a bit disappointed. Obviously this is a snap shot of one day and might not be representative of other customer’s experience; it’s a shame when you get a bad experience somewhere you like, let’s hope it was just a one off. The biggest issue was the food, it just didn’t hit the mark.

Had a lovely meal in the garden. Was a lovely evening. Service could have been better, after our first order of drinks, we had to go to the bar, which isn’t too much of an issue, but you are paying a 10% service charge, so would have expected table service considering we was having a meal. We was watching the Olympics on TV still drinking in the garden, last orders hadn’t been called. One of the staff came over, turned the TV off, no conversation or explanation and walked off. So we took that as cue that they wanted us to leave.

"After never visiting Canterbury before we where looking for somewhere to have a late lunch, we came across this place which looked ok, upon entering the back room we were offered to take a seat in the front area and someone will be with us. We asked what food there was and we where sarcastically shown the food on the blackboard, after choosing what we wanted the polite man went off and put the order in. We did feel that because the man had asked a couple of questions to another member of staff that he was spoke down too a bit. Anyway after placing the order and what we wanted the food came out it wasn’t correct but because it seemed like we were going to interrupt the people in the back room we just took what we had. It was nice food though. When we went to pay we hadn’t noticed that there wasn’t a price list so when we asked for the bill we were told that it was donation, what we thought was enough, it wasn’t posted anywhere and it took us by surprise as we where standing at the till, I was going to pay in cash but was told they don’t take cash so I had to give my donation in card by telling the person how much we where donating. After plucking a figure out of air as we wasn’t prepared we paid and left. Upon leaving we felt that the person we paid thought we hadn’t paid enough and wasn’t happy with the amount but after working out what we would have paid properly we worked out that we had paid more than what it might have been if there was a proper price on everything. Overall it has a great ethos and it’s great for giving people the experience that they need to be in a working environment but they need to show the price or tell customers first that it’s donations and card only."
