"One of the servers at the carvery had a bad attitude! She refused to let me put some vegetables and mashed potatoes on a plate for my 9-month-old baby. Despite being regular customers who visit this pub at least once a month with the whole family and having ordered four carveries, we received absolutely terrible treatment. The vegetables were undercooked and the mashed potatoes didn't even taste like mashed potatoes. Last month, the roast potatoes were also inedible. After tonight's experience, we will be looking for another pub to take our family to. It's a shame because some of the staff, like Donna, are lovely. However, the way I was treated tonight has ensured that we will not be coming back."

This restaurant serves disgusting, cold food with poor service. The staff does not care about customer satisfaction and no one asked how our experience was. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere all received a rating of 1 out of 5.

The roast buffet was delicious and the staff were very accommodating in making my wife's birthday special. It's clear why The Golden Goose has been a popular spot in our town for so long. We will definitely be returning. Thank you. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 View menu

My friend and I both had carvery. She had beef and turkey, which she said was nice. I had beef and pork, and was good. Yorkie and stuffing were a bit overcooked. Desserts of sticky toffee pudding and raspberry/choc cheesecake went down a treat. Overall a good lunch, and quite reasonably priced. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 4

It is not easy to find a dog-friendly restaurant with delicious food in this area, but this pub meets both criteria. We wanted to bring our dog with us for Sunday dinner and had trouble finding a suitable place until we discovered this pub. The menu offers a tasty variety of roast meats, including lamb, as well as a great selection of well-cooked vegetables. The pub is located on the outskirts of town and can be quite busy and loud, but families are welcome and the staff are friendly and helpful. We had a great meal with our dog and found the prices to be reasonable and generous. What more could you ask for?

"Arrived a few minutes early at 3.15pm for our 3.30pm booking. Very warm welcome from blonde waitress at bar. Very quickly seated by dark haired waitress with glasses who wasn 't very friendly from the start. Pub was fairly busy on arrival but soon became pretty quiet, perhaps explaining our tail end of service poor experience. Wine list had to be chased as didn 't arrive. Drinks also had to be chased. Service to actually place our order had to be chased as we were seemingly abandoned after asking for a few minutes to chose our meals after being asked for our order only a couple of minutes after arrival. Further service had to be chased from our dead zone later in the meal. These were details only, very annoying but par for the course these days sadly. The main and more significant issue was the quality of the roast beef. Tough to the point that you could not cut it. Also delivered not as requested in terms of cooking so lots of back and forth to get our meat cooked as we had asked. Numerous veg were cold or luke warm. Several yorkshire pudding way beyond crisp to the point of being burnt. Excessive salt on majority of veg. Manageress arrived fairly quickly and was initially responsive but the experience at this stage was already hugely spoiled. Replacement food was much better but by that stage we had been put off the whole lunch and to reflect this were offered 2 glasses of wine and a portion of custard to compliment our dessert! This place has been unreliable since the start of the Giles ownership. The family attitude to customers is poor. We asked for the manager to review the bill to reflect the poor experience and ended up being passed a phone to talk to the manager who had gone home. This some 3 hours after we entered the pub due to the awful experience we had encountered."
