"We 'd not been since the reopening so were excited for this. We 'd booked for Christmas lunch no less. I have to say the welcome from (I presume the landlord (we didn 't get his name and team were lovely, so I hope they take this feedback as well meant. The food was OK. Not anything to complain about, but it was a bit basic and lacked attention to the details which I think Christmas should be about. The baked Camembert starter came with a few thin slices of French bread and a sprig of thyme but it would have been greatly improved by a bit of cranberry sauce on the side in terms of visuals and taste. We ran out of the bread pretty quickly! The prawn cocktail starter was flavourless and the prawns were tiny and a bit dry, clearly thawed from a packet. My husband and elder son 's turkey main course was described as 'with all the trimmings ' but aside of pigs in blankets and sprouts, there was no stuffing or (again cranberry sauce. My roast pork skin wasn 't 'crackled ' so was just a soggy layer of fat and the accompanying potato Dauphinoise was woefully underseasoned so I left that too. Not worth the calories. My other son enjoyed his steak chips though which were cooked exactly as he wished. Desserts all OK no complaints, nothing to write home about on presentation. A few berries or even a sprig of holly on the side and a dusting of icing sugar would have made it feel a bit more 'Christmassy '. If it was only this though I would have gone for a 'good ' rating but there isn 't one here i.e. 3.5 out of 5. The thing that made it drop down again, was that they sat us behind a screen on the other side of the toilets. This wasn 't immediately apparent as a problem but over the next two hours, the smell of p*ss started seeping into our nostrils and completely destroying the ambiance. I ended up leaving half my dessert and stepping away from the table whilst we were waiting for the bill. Luckily we didn 't need the toilet whilst we were there. Again, not the fault of the staff but those toilets need a much better clean and ventilation. Not pleasant at all. Would we go again? Yes, for drinks and the staff, welcome and service. No, for a Christmas meal, but maybe we 'd try it for regular pub grub (I 'd insist on not sitting near the toilets though they need fumigating and a new cleaner! ."
