"We 'd not been since the reopening so were excited for this. We 'd booked for Christmas lunch no less. I have to say the welcome from (I presume the landlord (we didn 't get his name and team were lovely, so I hope they take this feedback as well meant. The food was OK. Not anything to complain about, but it was a bit basic and lacked attention to the details which I think Christmas should be about. The baked Camembert starter came with a few thin slices of French bread and a sprig of thyme but it would have been greatly improved by a bit of cranberry sauce on the side in terms of visuals and taste. We ran out of the bread pretty quickly! The prawn cocktail starter was flavourless and the prawns were tiny and a bit dry, clearly thawed from a packet. My husband and elder son 's turkey main course was described as 'with all the trimmings ' but aside of pigs in blankets and sprouts, there was no stuffing or (again cranberry sauce. My roast pork skin wasn 't 'crackled ' so was just a soggy layer of fat and the accompanying potato Dauphinoise was woefully underseasoned so I left that too. Not worth the calories. My other son enjoyed his steak chips though which were cooked exactly as he wished. Desserts all OK no complaints, nothing to write home about on presentation. A few berries or even a sprig of holly on the side and a dusting of icing sugar would have made it feel a bit more 'Christmassy '. If it was only this though I would have gone for a 'good ' rating but there isn 't one here i.e. 3.5 out of 5. The thing that made it drop down again, was that they sat us behind a screen on the other side of the toilets. This wasn 't immediately apparent as a problem but over the next two hours, the smell of p*ss started seeping into our nostrils and completely destroying the ambiance. I ended up leaving half my dessert and stepping away from the table whilst we were waiting for the bill. Luckily we didn 't need the toilet whilst we were there. Again, not the fault of the staff but those toilets need a much better clean and ventilation. Not pleasant at all. Would we go again? Yes, for drinks and the staff, welcome and service. No, for a Christmas meal, but maybe we 'd try it for regular pub grub (I 'd insist on not sitting near the toilets though they need fumigating and a new cleaner! ."

Had a lovely afternoon celebrating an 80th. Really excellent service (thank you to Alex) and the food was lovely. Would highly recommend for any occasion.

The Sunday roast at this place was terrible. The roast potatoes were undercooked and it took over 45 minutes to get our desserts. It completely ruined Mother's Day for us.

The food is always of good quality, the staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming. The drinks and food are served promptly and there is a good selection of beers. The prices for both food and drinks are very reasonable. I am happy to be a regular customer here!

A very mediocre Sunday lunch. Nicely presented but barely warm and the roast potatoes were anaemic and tough round the edges. The vegetarian meal seemed to be a combination of the 2 menu options but was OK. The desserts were supposed to be served with vanilla ice cream, instead it was chocolate chip. Will not return, there are too many other decent places to eat.

Last time I was here was 35 years ago and I came to see whether it had changed. It had been updated a little but still had a lot of the lovely old character I remembered which was lovely. Sunday roast was excellent and service was friendly and helpful. Only suggestion for improvement was to update/clean toilets as they were in need of it. But would still recommend overall as a great pub to eat or drink.

We went to the Grosvenor for Christmas lunch, it was utterly chaotic. We waited for half an hour before we were seated, the food was terrible, we waited, nearly 2 hours between our starter and our main course and had to leave with a pudding in a takeaway box, or we would have missed a taxi home. Terrible service terrible experience. Do not go to this pub for food! The manager gave us a string of excuses as to what was going on. Judging by the food I would say they were short of kitchen staff. This put enormous pressure on the table staff who looked exhausted and utterly fed up. Of all days Christmas Day is not the day to get it so badly wrong!

Our friends recently shared a dreadful Christmas experience at the Grosvenor, and regretfully, I now wish I had paid more attention. Despite our intention to support a local pub, our family visit turned into a disappointment. It took two and a half hours to receive our main and dessert, and no one bothered to take our drink orders. The limited gluten-free option, a 'naked burger, ' was unappetizing – a defrosted patty on wilted lettuce and tomatoes with no dressing. The overall food quality left much to be desired, and the nonexistent service required us to clear our own table. Even the kids ' lunch arrived on scalding plates. To cap it off, the women 's restroom lacked toilet paper on Mothe...

I really wanted this pub to succeed, especially after a recent unfortunate forced closure. I had high expectations for Mother's Day, hoping it would be excellent! It was a great opportunity for the pub to shine, but unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment. It seemed like the oven wasn't working properly, as we were served large boiled potatoes instead of roasted ones, and the vegetarian wellington had uncooked pastry. The food took a long time to arrive as well. To make matters worse, we found plastic in the Eton mess dessert. I heard that new cooks are on the way, but basic things like cooking a roast potato should not be a challenge. We received an apology and complimentary dess...

Lived in the area for 10 years. When this was owned by Food Fuel, had a decent GM and a proper chef, it was a wonderful pub. Amazing fresh food with seasonal specials, a warm atmosphere and well priced good beer/wine. Then along came private equity backed Red Cat. They have put in a frozen food led menu (same as all their other pubs with a cheap kitchen team and no real chef. Shipping out centrally bought cheap frozen food to all your no pubs may be good for the cost side of the P L, but it kills once great pubs. We don’t eat here as I know the story. However we tried the nachos one day recently how bad can you make nachos? Gloopy guacamole out of a large bottle (ever heard of a fresh avocad...
