"Not been here for a few years having come to the conclusion that the food was overpriced and inconsistent in quality. Decided to give it another go to support the new owner. Sadly, nothing has changed. Mains are typically £15 which is ok if they are expertly cooked and of a decent portion size. The menu is not that exciting. Regular pub grub. I decided to go for the burger and asked the waitress if it was cooked to order or reheated like my last visit. Having being reassured it was, i anticipated a juicy treat. Unfortunately it was dry and barely edible. I did not complain as i was celebrating a birthday and did not want to spoil the atmosphere. After the meal our party compared experiences. Nobody scored their meal above 5 out of 10. I did report my concern at the bar upon departure as constructive feedback, and was listened to. On a positive note, the service was good and the vibe was pleasant."

Fantastic food, best fish and chips in a pub, crispy and hit and fresh! Perfect! Lovely staff too, top marks and highly recommend.

Excellent staff, very friendly, I had Whitebait starter that was excellent and probably the best steak and ale pie I've ever tasted. Great menu, cask ales and a super location, couldn't fault my visit. View menu

I’ve read a lot of good reviews. But seriously disappointment.Roast beef tough, roast potatoes with a hard skin obviously left lying in warm oven. Vegetables plain no imagination. Service slow understaffed and table sticky. A Sunday lunch isn’t hard to get right. Unfortunately won’t be back.

Always rated the food here however I was deeply disappointed. They’ve lost their passion for food. I couldn’t eat the creamy peppercorn chicken, even the waitress liked embarrassed handing it to me. Chips and salad was nice. Unfortunately my daughter who isn’t fussy couldn’t eat her food either. Garden was a mess with lots of broken pieces of wood. Wasn’t a nice area to sit in. Waste of hard earned money and won’t be returning im afraid

ON A COLD WINTERS NIGHT WE FELT WE HAD WALKED INTO A VILLAGE HALL, THIS ISN'T AN INTERIOR DESIGN CRITIC BUT THE PLACE FELT BARE AND EMPTY, NO CURTAINS AT THE WINDOWS GAVE A STARK COLD ATMOSPHERE. BACKGROUND MUSIC QUITE OVERBEARING, FOOD WAS OK, WE ARE VERY AWARE OF THE COST OF LIVING CRISIS AND SYMPATHISE VERY MUCH BUT WE DIDN'T FEEL £8 FOR A MUSHROOM STARTER WAS GOOD VALUE AT ALL, WITHOUT THE 20% DISCOUNT OFF MAIN COURSES THE BILL WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY POOR VALUE FOR MONEY AND SADLY WE WON'T BE RETURNING View menu

Had the Christmas menu last week and rebooked for friends . This time the Portabello mushrooms were just small ordinary mushrooms . The beef main was tasty but did not contain the root veg it did last week . The plum pudding was good . However, we were overcharged by £30 and were refunded when we challenged the bill. Also the drinks service was poor . I ordered a wine and a separate soda but was served a white wine spritzer . I have enjoyed eating at this venue for a number of years but feel very disappointed with my visit this evening.

Went to try the new ‘Light Bite Menu’ available from 12-5pm Monday-Friday £8.50 Mains £4 Starters. Great idea and yes the portion size is smaller (not for everyone) but enough for us and meant we had room for their lovely desserts . I tried the ham (thick piece it was really tasty) and eggs and chips. Also lots of meat in the steak and ale pie . Desserts are always nice here and good portion sizes with 2 scoops of ice cream yayyyyy. Quiet when we arrived but got busy later on so I would book. Great service from staff who were well organised with quick service and clearing away tables. It’s a typical pub in here including a dining room conservatory so lots of room and some quiet tables in the...

"Went for afternoon tea with my wife, using an 'experience ' voucher from a well known site, costing £35.99 absolute disaster! The description said 'sit down in the sophisticated dining room and tuck into a section of finger sandwiches, tantalising cakes, pastries, macarons and scones with clotted cream and jam. You won 't want this afternoon to end! ' Trust me, we could not get out of their quick enough and go and find somewhere to get something to eat. The sophisticated dining room was a large, cold room with only a couple of other diners, sticky wooden tables, with no table cloths, just a flimsy paper napkin and a knife and fork. We ordered a coffee and a tea, which came in the smallest teapot, I have ever seen. Later in the meal, when we asked for another drink, we were told that was extra and were charged another £5.70. The food was nothing like as described or pictured on the website. A sad looking selection of sandwiches four quarters each of thin sliced bread one containing a very small piece of processed ham, a second mashed up egg, third was some sort of fish, not sure if it was salmon or tuna; and finally some sort of green leaf with something wet on top it looked like the sandwich had been made days earlier and then sat upon! No pastries or macarons but the two scones with clotted cream and two little pots of jam were OK, however the remaining small cakes were dreadful, none of them were fresh there were two eclairs that were inedible, either the cream or chocolate was off and they were very dry; two little red velvet cakes, which again were dry and horrible; and finally two small pieces of carrot cake that were the least objectionable but again very dry. When we told the waitress the eclairs, she said she would tell the chef but no offer of an alternative. True, it was an unforgettable experience, but not in the way we had expected! We have had afternoon teas in top hotels, pubs, cafes and well known garden centres and nothing came close to being as bad as this meal. Needless to say we will never return and would strongly advise caution if anyone is thinking of going here."
