"I found this pub by reading Trip Advisor reviews. The pub had obviously been recently refurbished and was very modern inside and a little sterile taking away any real ambiance. The menu was very good, but took a little longer to arrive than I would have expected., but the quality of service was good. The meals were reasonable but not great, and didn’t live up to the reviews I had read. Don’t get me wrong, they were ok, but just not as good as I expected for the price paid. The cost of the drinks was frankly outrageous, which is why I have given this a three star review and not a four star. I also didn’t like the fact they added a 10% service charge at lunchtime making the entire experience significantly overpriced. Don’t let this review put you off going, but check the price of the drinks before you order."

A perfect dining experience for our lunch meet up with an old friend. The food, ambience and service were all excellent and very fairly priced. Well done to all concerned and thank you!

Today we celebrated a private birthday party at this restaurant. Our group of 16 people, including 4 young children, enjoyed both the delicious food and excellent service. Our server Chelsea was amazing and very attentive. We will definitely be returning in the future!

The four of us had the usual fantastic meal at The Plough last night. The ambience is first class as is the service and atmosphere. Idris and his team run a lovely restaurant and bar whatever one's needs and in my book The Plough remains our No 1 go to place to eat and drink in the Brentwood, Shenfield and Mountnessing area. Well done Idris and team! View menu

This restaurant has undergone a wonderful transformation. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and professional. The cocktails are perfectly mixed and the food is delicious. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing. We are thrilled to have rediscovered this place and actually visited twice in one week. It has quickly become one of my new favorite local dining spots.

Lunched with a group of friends from the city of London. Large roadside pub, during our Wednesday visit was very nearly empty. As it was a warm day, we opted to sit in the covered area outside. The service was rather slow for both our drinks and the food. The food was ok, but it mystifies me why restaurants serve a sweet brioche bun with a savoury burger inside. I would choose something different next time.

Literally popped in after seeing it come up on social media, the new decor is very modern, and great furnishungs etc, we were warmly welcomed, great advice for the menu as I am coeliac, the food we had was excellent and we were incredibly well looked after, I have no doubt we will return again and it will become one of our favourite places to eat. Little added plus from me, as the weather is so beautiful, the restaurant was playing very chilled cafe del mar tunes, I could have been in Ibiza View menu

The service at this restaurant was very poor. The barman/waiter was unwelcoming and unsmiling. Despite there being multiple empty tables, my brother and I were told we could only sit on stools at the bar. When I suggested we could move if others arrived, I was informed that this was against company policy. We left without finishing our drinks and found a much more welcoming atmosphere at The Rose in Shenfield. The prices were also quite high, with a pint of beer and a Coke costing £10.60. Overall, it was a dreadful experience compared to our visit to The Rose.

So here’s a shout out to a local business, The Plough at Mountnessing. A table for four, great playlist on the system (amazing how many hospitality businesses never read the room and just put ‘anything’ on yet this is another crucial area of the experience). The food… brilliantly presented and cooked to perfection (even room for desert, which is a rarity for me). Service from the staff amazing, just right… no rushing, but attentive when required. As someone who has worked in hospitality and trained in service levels, this one ticked every box! If you’ve never visited, certainly one to put on the wish list… I’ll be back soon.

"We used to go to Whittaker's every weekend when visiting Brentwood, and used to recommend it ,it was always expensive, but it was good food and good service, but for the last few months it is going down hill fast! As soon as you go in now ,and...eventually noticed,we are told it will be ,or minutes wait for food,at this point many customers leave. This has happened every time we visit,so we ordered coffee, when we would have ordered food for four people, well we waited, and waited, for a coffee ,after twenty minutes I went up to the kitchen, and was told it's coming, where from Brazil!!!!!! And then nothing! Caught a waitresses eye and asked again, then we got it,and then told if we were not eating could we be quicker as there were people waiting!!!!! Anyone sitting down was told it was a long wait,so most left! That's money walking out the door! And they didn't seem to care! We discovered the reason for this terrible service,a buy came in with a massive deliveroo bag and left after ten minutes with a massive bag of food, they are now doing delivery and making the deliveroo a priority !!!!! They might think they are making a good living out of this, but the people actually there are money too! And paying extra for the privelidge of eating in. It cost more to eat i than take out! And the last time we were there, they lost our custom,so that was four,we saw another three leave,a other group of four,a couple, and that's customers ,and the as thing was no one from Whittaker's asked the people why they were going,or attempt to sort the problem out. We were sitting by the door and as it opened other customers were calling out don't bother again no staff were Interested. This cafe is packed in , more and more tables, with no room to get up or down from your table without backing Into other people, and nearly sitting on their laps. Not going back ,now they are doing deliveroo, actual customers who want to eat,are getting a very poor service. They have lost our custom for good,"
