"Visited this pub today, I should have walked out straight away as the smell amd the Miserable owner with his dirty shirt said it all. However after struggling to find somewhere that was dog friendly we stayed what a mistake that was. Woman arrived with a dirty fleece on and grease hair came to take our order no sooner had she taken it the food had arrived talk about chicken ding never received food so fast not even at McDonald's. Was disgusting to say the least, salad was limp and brown tastless lasagne never seen it look like that !!! Owner came over to 3 full plates and asked what was wrong? What was right .more like. He replied with no charge and goodbye. No sorry no nothing. We upped and left and will never ever return. Do not visit this smelly establishment"

This pub has had some stinking reviews but we found it to be very acceptable indeed. The interior is quite nice and there is a pool table and 2 dart boards. Food was generously portioned , very reasonably priced and tasty . There was nothing here not to like if you are looking for good pub fare.

My family and I visited here on Saturday night for our tea. We were staying at Hall Park Hotel for a family party and the owner recommended The Royal George as somewhere for us to go to eat. There were 10 of us! The food was absolutely lush and didn't take very long to arrive from ordering. A lovely place that we'll defo go back to if we're in the area again

sign outside said pub was dog friendly, went in to check with and was told that there were only two dog friendly tables and that someone was sitting at them so we couldn't be served. Asked if there was anywhere else locally serving food that was dog friendly but was told no. Felt very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Would not recommend if you have a dog with you as the tables might be occupied. View menu

Went for a meal for a friend's birthday. Done expect a sizzler to conain a diced up pre cooked chicken breast and throw some sauce on it. Battered strips of pre cooked chicken.. greasy. Definitely not the best meal I have had the Workington area. Might have been an off day for the cook, but how food is cooked does need rethinking. Staff on bar were attentive though and a credit to the team, bit nippy inside though!

Getting straight to the point....It doesn't have kerb appeal thanks to the peeling paint around the windows and doors. The pavement outside is littered with cigarette buts and weeds. . The food is ok. The dining room has no atmosphere. The bar area needs a good makeover. The chairs and bench seats are stained and look very grubby. The landlord, when he appears, doesn't look interested in his customers. The youngsters who serve behind the bar and take food orders do their best but don't look happy. Football and Rugby fans don't bother as they have cancelled SKY.

"I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money."
