"Overall, my experience at this restaurant was very disappointing and strange due to confused and inept service. Upon arrival, we were informed that we would be having six courses, based on what we had supposedly booked. After clarifying that we hadn't booked for any specific number of courses, we were told we could choose between three or four courses as listed on the menu. Despite this, another server brought out soup and canapés before we had even ordered our drinks. When we expressed our confusion and stated that we hadn't ordered any food yet, we were informed that the soup and canapés were always served and we could choose our remaining courses. Despite being told that the sommelier would come take our drink order, 15 minutes went by without any action being taken. It was later explained that the soup and canapés had been counted as our first course, despite our lack of choice or desire for them. The staff, consisting of overly made-up, underfed young ladies in long dresses and aprons reminiscent of a dull version of The Handmaid's Tale, provided no explanation or enthusiasm about the food. While the food itself was satisfactory, the service greatly detracted from the overall dining experience."

Service awful. Staff rude. Hotel poor. All in all very unwelcoming and good 3rd rate. I have tried to complain but they are not interested. Totally spoilt our weekend.

Not your standard, why we liked it so much. Candles, quirky artwork, excellent food and a very attentive French waitress. The Prosecco and the wine were also very good. The coffee was not very excellent! View menu

Drinks are ridiculously expensive. Supplements on chips, peas, some starters and venison. Took 2.5 hours for 2 people to eat, service was slow but one positive is the food got better as you progressed through the 6 courses. Staff were friendly but over worked in the restaurant

Second visit in two weeks. If you like good food, excellent service in a slightly quirky environment you need to visit. The Groupon also with the additions for steak, sides and wine still great value. Portion sizes were surprisingly large for a 6-course look and we fought to finish until the end of our meal. We will return with or without Groupon in the future.

Gloomy setting. Sitting rooms decorated with reptiles pickled in bottles. Not conducive to dining. Given a 6 course menu, told we could have 2 or 3 courses but 3 cheaper than 2. Waitress could not explain why. My husband chose steak which had a £12 supplement. It was approximately 4 ounces and when he complained was told it was part of the 6 course menu which was not explained when he ordered it. Extortionately priced Pinot Grigio rose £35. Certainly not returning. View menu

We came on a voucher offer. The service and ambience were most impressive. Waitress delightful, helpful and made our evening. The amuse bouches were not tasty but pea and ham soup was fine, these two offerings were non optional,so the advertised six course menu only offered three choices. Starters interesting and enjoyable. Only three main courses without £12.50 supplement. Mains needed vegetable accompaniments, a charge of £4 for 8 new potatoes was steep! We felt at least one veg option should have been included in price. Desserts/cheese delicious. Overall would have felt hard done by if we had paid full whack. Drinks prices extortionate fortunately had been forewarned, however £23 for two...

A superb setting as you would hope delicious food. What was a little disappointing was no welcome or advice where to go! Entering the premises you immediately realise it’s a little different, not your normal restaurant, so help clarification would have been much appreciated. After wandering in out of various room we finally found the eating area. Again a delay of about 5 mins before we were greeted shown to our table. We ended up getting the wrong meals 2x steak pepper sauce instead of 1x venison 1x steak with garlic butter that we ordered! But all was so nice we just ate it! We had a deal for 4 people but 2 were ill the restaurant accommodated us with a selection of options that we were ver...

"We've often eaten here and had excellent food and service. Until this week. We booked for lunch and our waitress organised drinks very promptly before taking our order. I asked for scampi with a salad, avoiding chips and we also asked for garlic bread to share. When our food arrived, I had scampi and chips with a bowl of salad and no sign of the garlic bread. The waitress suddenly realised I hadn't ordered chips but I said that was OK as my husband would eat them. Despite reminding her about the garlic bread, it never arrived. Our waitress was quiet and efficient, and busy with new arrivals as the restaurant began to fill. We eventually decided it was pointless asking about the garlic bread and finished the meal with tiramisu. The bill duly arrived and in the absence of garlic bread, she offered to take off the service charge. We decided, as the majority of the meal had been fine, to ask for only half of it to be deducted. I think my main problem was with the manager. Although he was there, he didn't deal with any of this problem. He seemed to be fine with going around the tables and chatting to regular customers, but in the matter of the missing garlic bread and the chips I had not ordered, he left the waitress to deal with the problem and didn't even look at us when we left. In many places we have eaten, the manager will normally speak to customers and not leave his staff to face an unhappy diner. Popular eateries don't only rely on their food, their service is just as important, and unfortunately it felt as if no one really cared. Sadly we've eaten our last meal there and won't be coming back."
