"Overall, my experience at this restaurant was very disappointing and strange due to confused and inept service. Upon arrival, we were informed that we would be having six courses, based on what we had supposedly booked. After clarifying that we hadn't booked for any specific number of courses, we were told we could choose between three or four courses as listed on the menu. Despite this, another server brought out soup and canapés before we had even ordered our drinks. When we expressed our confusion and stated that we hadn't ordered any food yet, we were informed that the soup and canapés were always served and we could choose our remaining courses. Despite being told that the sommelier would come take our drink order, 15 minutes went by without any action being taken. It was later explained that the soup and canapés had been counted as our first course, despite our lack of choice or desire for them. The staff, consisting of overly made-up, underfed young ladies in long dresses and aprons reminiscent of a dull version of The Handmaid's Tale, provided no explanation or enthusiasm about the food. While the food itself was satisfactory, the service greatly detracted from the overall dining experience."

I loved everything about the restaurant except for the game pie, which was ground up and tasted very unusual.

Not your norm which is why we liked it so much. Candles, quirky artwork , excellent food and a very attentive french waitress. The Prosecco and wine was very good too. Only thing not quite excellent was the coffee!

A hidden gem. The food was exquisite, and with a prix fixe menu that had a baseline of 0, the value was incredible. We had a $200+ meal for 2 here for under $50. If you are in the area, this is a place not to miss for fine dining. View menu

Overall it was disappointing. I had expected something special but it was very average and our meals were not consistently well cooked. On top of that service is very slow, to the point of you wanting to leave rather than try waiting for a dessert. Shame as the place could have real potential

Although we had booked a table for two, our reservation was not really acknowledged. The seating was set up like a boarding school. It was extremely noisy. Service was very poor with drinks taking up to 20mins to arrive. Food was good but now what was expected. Would not recommend this to anyone, certainly not if you want something quiet or romantic.

Second visit in 2 weeks. If you like great food, excellent service in a slightly quirky environment you must visit. The Groupon even with the supplements for the Steak, sides and wine still represented great value. Portion sizes were surprisingly large for a 6 course taster and we were struggling to finish by the end of our meal. We will definitely return in the future with or without Groupon. View menu

Met by staff who barked at us that we were too early ! Ushered to bar area to have expensive £12:50 g&t. No real explanation of food so it was a guess on the amuse. One staff member with a terrible split in her sleeve had a face like thunder and attitude to match, why was she there ? Food above ok but nothing special, so disappointing from MPW. Should’ve taken my wife elsewhere, won’t return for expensive night out.

The restaurant was quite dark so it was impossible to read the menu and had to use phone torches. The noise level was quite loud at times the music was too loud we had to keep repeating ourselves to be heard. The food was good, but being a set menu I didn’t feel the first 2 courses were up to the same standard as the main. They felt pre-prepared, and thrown together. We stayed for 2 nights and were disappointed that the starters were the same on both days! Overall the atmosphere was good and service quite good but improvements could definitely be made.

"The Sign of the Angel is a wonderful restaurant Hotel in Lacock. Service The service was amazing, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, and made our meal so enjoyable as they were always there to serve us when needed. Food The menu was very well put together and something for everybody. We all ordered something different, I have to say all the food that arrived, was beautifully presented, and hard to pick, as we all had food, envy! Drinks There was a wide range of drinks on the menu for anybody wishing to have an alcoholic drink or something that is non alcoholic. We had a beautiful bottle of rosé wine that was from a local vineyard, it was lovely to see local businesses working together! Decor The decor of the restaurant and lounges is homely and inviting, suitable for a quick, get together, business meeting, birthday parties, or something a bit more formal. Prices Prices are very reasonable, especially when you take in consideration, the location and the service that we were lucky enough to receive. Lacock This small quaint village is the most beautiful destination to visit, it is somewhere that everybody should go to to see how beautiful are English country villages are, it is also very well located as it is so close to the city of Bath. I would highly recommend The Sign Of The Angel to anyone looking for a great meal with a venue and experience that you will not be disappointed with, I think next time we’ll end up staying in the hotel that is part of the restaurant and making an even longer trip out of it as we didn’t want to leave. Food drinks: The food was exquisite, with each dish presented like a work of art. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the textures were divine. The meal was truly a feast for the senses the wine from the local vineyard also helped add to the incredible flavours as well."

"We've often eaten here and had excellent food and service. Until this week. We booked for lunch and our waitress organised drinks very promptly before taking our order. I asked for scampi with a salad, avoiding chips and we also asked for garlic bread to share. When our food arrived, I had scampi and chips with a bowl of salad and no sign of the garlic bread. The waitress suddenly realised I hadn't ordered chips but I said that was OK as my husband would eat them. Despite reminding her about the garlic bread, it never arrived. Our waitress was quiet and efficient, and busy with new arrivals as the restaurant began to fill. We eventually decided it was pointless asking about the garlic bread and finished the meal with tiramisu. The bill duly arrived and in the absence of garlic bread, she offered to take off the service charge. We decided, as the majority of the meal had been fine, to ask for only half of it to be deducted. I think my main problem was with the manager. Although he was there, he didn't deal with any of this problem. He seemed to be fine with going around the tables and chatting to regular customers, but in the matter of the missing garlic bread and the chips I had not ordered, he left the waitress to deal with the problem and didn't even look at us when we left. In many places we have eaten, the manager will normally speak to customers and not leave his staff to face an unhappy diner. Popular eateries don't only rely on their food, their service is just as important, and unfortunately it felt as if no one really cared. Sadly we've eaten our last meal there and won't be coming back."
