"we visited this Sunday dinner after a long walk from buford Caravan site. what a beautiful pud and a wonderful friendly staff that felt so welcome. was only planned for a drink, but it looked so good to eat. we asked ourselves about a table when we had our dog with us and they were busy. nothing was much annoyed for them, I had the roast beef and my wife had leber and speck and both were beautiful. but the puddings were fantastic, one of the best meals we had in a long time. all staff were so friendly and helpful, making it even more pleasant. Not sure if we enjoyed the walk back to the website. in any case would visit again"

We had a wonderful Father's Day at the Rose and Crown. The Pate starter was the best I've ever had. The roast beef lunch was perfect. Thank you so much.

What an incredible experience! Matt possesses a wealth of knowledge in the hospitality industry, and the risotto with ossobuco was simply outstanding. Additionally, the sticky toffee pudding was absolutely delicious! Price per person: £30–40. Food: 5/5. Service: 5/5. Atmosphere: 5/5. Highly recommended dish: Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Very nice and cosy place to have a pint. We stopped here as we were goi g to stay nearby. Has some outdoor tables where we could bask in the sun and have a beer. Service was prompt and friendly. They will happily let you taste a couple of the local beers if you don’t know them. No food was being served when we went as they are going through a refurbishment

Stayed in Shilton with family and had dinner here on two evenings. Amazing food and such a great atmosphere. Matt the owner was so welcoming and as I missed out on mussels on our first night, made sure he ordered some so I could have them on the Saturday. They were excellent as were the tempura prawns! The men all enjoyed the local draught beers, hence our visit each evening! Thank you. Highly recommend this brilliant village pub. View menu

We had an excellent evening at the recently renovated shilton rose crown Matthew, Yvonne and Raul conform a warm and attentive team of hosts. Amazing food that evidences their background and experience in the restaurant industry. In the midst of a frantic evening full of clients during the jubilee week end, Matthew sit down with us to share some of his trekking experience in Southern Patagonia, which was a bonus for as as we come from Argentina and we go there every summer. This is an must stop for eating in the Costwolds region and so we will spread the word Matias Ade Zaefferer

many thanks for such a beautiful night, eating, atmosphere and service were excellent. my wife and I came a little early for our reservation for a table of 6 with our elders who arrive soon, my wife is currently cruising, but the dame behind the bar has not hesitated to bring over another chair so that she could put her foot up and was incredibly attentive all night without being intrusive. the eating was proper pub coup, extremely well made and execution five stars, the fit was cozy, clean and kovid conscious and above all the ale was excellent! once again many thanks, we will come back when they have us.

"A beautiful old building (as most in this town). As a pub it’s not at all bad, as a hotel it leaves a lot to be desired. Our room (Signet) was damp and noisy with the constant drone of either a large extractor fan or washing machine downstairs more akin to a New York apartment than a quiet country pub. Bed was small (fair enough it’s a small room) but not particularly comfortable. The main problem was the attitude of the staff. I was told at check in breakfast finished at 10. When I arrived downstairs at 0950 I was told it finished at 0930. While I was staying I smashed my head badly on a very low door frame. These are normal in such old buildings in England. It was my fault of course, and it is marked with a very small label “Mind your head” but it was so hard a knock I ended up on the floor. That day I was headed to a wedding but had to leave due to the earlier knock as I wasn’t 100% When the next morning I was asked for details so they could complete the accident book, when I suggested that it needs a strip of yellow warning tape so it’s more noticeable her (Rebecca Riley the managers) response was an irritated and patronising “It does have a label and that is all that is required by law”. When I pointed out that while that may be the case I would expect that she might be more focused on firstly my welfare and secondly that of her future guests rather than simply what the most basic requirements by law are, she looked at me with disdain. Won’t be staying again, not because of low doorframes but because a general lack of attention to detail and this attitude which was entirely unnecessary. It was the same about the breakfast: I explained I was told by the staff the day before it was 10, she said “Well it’s here on the clipboard the booking times”. I said I believed her but the point was it was not what I was told. This is not what a great customer experience looks like. Good points were that food was OK, it’s a great location and the room had an excellent power shower and good water temperatures. I want to add that when one of the Cleaners heard/saw the accident happen, she was most sympathetic and asked repeatedly if she could do anything a better example of customer care than her boss."
