"Looking for something to eat rather early on a Sunday, Books and Beans offers the best opening times in Aberdeen. Given their big range of food, the vegan options are somewhat poor. There was no vegan breakfast, yet, I could take a sandwich instead (the Tripple Decker Something). Not exceptional, but a generous serving and therefore filling. (No beans though Soups supposed to be vegan most of the time as well. Service was good, WiFi connections was good too. Nicely furnished additional seatings upstairs. Seems to be pretty popular in Aberdeen; I've seen plenty of mercandise Overall nice place, worthy of support. Would go again."

only a vegan option for sandwiches; a dry roll with hardly filling, accompanied with an anemia salat for £5.75 coffee but was beautiful!

The cafe is nice, especially if you go upstairs to the bookstore. They have great coffee with vegan milk options, but their food and cake selection can improve. Worth a visit anyways tho!

it feels like you're in a private little library. the staff is friendly, it is beautiful and quiet, and eating is a very good price. I have pancakes from the breakfast menu and they were delicious. I would definitely come back.

Soups are always vegan unless otherwise stated, a few vegan sandwiches/salads, tray bakes and chocolate bars, fresh juice and smoothies. Has soy and oat milk available. A lovely place to eat, with delicious food and secondhand books for sale. View menu

Pretty average food, basically custom made veg/vegan sandwiches and bland soya milk. It had a meaty smell downstairs in the food section but upstairs there are tables and chairs surrounded by 2nd handbooks for sale. That is interesting and worth checking out.

the caffe is also a bookshop, so it is a must if they love books. they can have a cup of coffee or buy their lunch at the selection of a book. a good place to hang out either with friends or by yourself. for vegan options I would not say that there are many when I went and the personal was not very striving to help. I had a suppe and a sipcake, which was in order, nothing special for eating.

I don't really understand why this place is so high rated here: the options are quite much inconvenient sandwiches with few and not very exciting ingredients on cheap brot or some baked kartoffels also with an uninspired choice of toppings. the place is central and if you need only one meal for 5-6 pfund quickly, it can be an option. the atmosphere is beautiful with all books. updated by previous review on 2019-02-18 View menu

before many months I got my morning coffee from books beans on the way to rgu’s school of engineering, which was earlier around the corner. I always loved the place, his little place, and I like the character of it. I wasn't vegan at that time, but since I went vegan, I was a few times when I was in a quiet city center and I love the suppening they do. I also had one of the sandwiches I enjoyed. I think they actually make a suppe and sandwich deal, but I forget the exact details, although a suppe and the sandwich together was a bit too much to eat for me.

I don't really understand why this place is listed on HappyCow. I came here last week while working in Aberdeen and when I asked them what they could make vegan on the menu, they were totally unenthusiastic and said that maybe they could modify a hummus sandwich to make it vegan. I ended up just having a black coffee and eating elsewhere. I see that the last reviews are from over a year ago; perhaps this place used to have better vegan options? Either way, based on my experience I don't feel that this cafe should continue to be listed as vegan-friendly on this website. Updated from previous review on Wednesday October 21, 2015
