"A visit to the Europa-Park to Rust took us to Freiburg one night. Our Airbnb host had closed many restaurants for the evening on Mondays... a good recommendation parat: the old Spanish restaurant “Casa Española” in downtown near the well-known Martinstor in Adelhauser Straße. The Casa has been standing since 1962 for Spanish dining culture in the heart of the Breisgau metropolis. It extends inside on two floors below the comedor and above the bar. In summer the terrace is additionally open. With so much culinary constancy, it is not surprising that even the magazine DER FEINSCHMECKER emphasizes the proper food offer, the ambitious selection of wine and the harmonious tapas bar atmosphere at Freiburg's most popular Spaniard. The tapas-local was easy to find and there were still a few places outside, but they filled very quickly. So we made it cozy under the open sky and studied the menu on the table. It was complemented by two slate boards attached to the Casa's house wall. Then a few salad variations with turkey, fish fillet or gambas, tasty-sounding meat dishes Kotelett vom Iberico-Schwein, filled poulardenbrust, lambskin, pork larvae and entrecôte as well as the obligatory Albondigas minced meatballs, serving for 4.20 euros, a standard tapa in a fruity tomato sauce. Also on the table: the Muslos de Pollo grilled chicken legs, serving also for 4.20 euros. Well, the day's offer had a good time. So one portion was ordered. The advantage of the small tapas balls is the tasteful variety on the table. The sharing of the dishes belongs here and allows the most varied palate delights. The service tried to serve the many guests as quickly as possible, which unfortunately did not always succeed. There was a glass on the headstone pavement. Anyway, we were on vacation and had time. The cold Verdejo 0.2l for 5.50 appeared to me to the Mediterranean overall situation. My accompaniment also slept a Spanish rosé “La Rosa”, 0.2l for 5.50 euros. As an additional tapas, we ordered the fried Calamares 5.50 euros, which did not come out of the pack, but freshly prepared with strong-pid Aioli and some lemon on the plate. They were really worth their money. A piece of Spanish tortilla 2.80 euros also ensured a pleasant saturation. Their presence on almost all surrounding tables made the order easy for me. With a fluffy consistency, the “Spanish cake” landed on the plate with a fine taste. The madly inlaid banderillas the Spanish Mixed Pickles variant, for 2.80 euros also set fresh accents on the warm summer evening. All this came to us pleasantly “Spanish” and this lukewarm evening in the city of Freiburg was only disturbed by a few raindrops – thank God – by passing thunderstorms. Since the water-absorbing clientele understood the word “Gesindel” would really be missing in the place as soon as possible the escape, which brought the responsible service manager a little into the rotation. We stayed. A couple of drops on the hot main don't hurt. It's always nice when such tips from local residents are getting out as such. At Casa Espanola this was absolutely true. If we come back to Freiburg, it is definitely part of the culinary programme. And the fried dumplings of Freiburg speciality will be available for lunch."

In the Casa Espanole you can see the whole Spanish life. The Weinstube is located in the old town of Adelhauserstr.; a few steps high and you are on holiday. There are small Spanish dishes (Tapas), which are very tasty, as well as the wines that are offered. Decensive music and an audience where you can quickly find connection in conversations. If you would like to forget the local gastronomy, it's quite right there. The restaurant has closed daily from 11:00 AM, Sundays and holidays.
