"My wife and I ate at Chao Baan for the first time and are delighted to have found this restaurant. Too often we use the word ‘authentic’ to describe dishes but this chef/manager pair truly deserve the word. I was instantly taken with the menu, a Thai restaurant that at last understands that less is more. An adequate choice of dishes, not page after page of confusion, and a loving declaration that the dishes won’t be adjusted on request. Perfect! We enjoyed crispy spring rolls and king prawns as a sharing starter, I chose the king prawn and asparagus dish while my wife opted for the spicy chicken salad. Both dishes were outstanding. Indeed, we both noticed flavours we hadn’t experienced before, and these no doubt would be from Bangkok sourced ingredients. Service was faultless and obviously, we’ll be back for more."

First visit to Chao Baan but certainly not the last. Not knowing much about Thai food, we had excellent advice from the friendly owner and staff and thoroughly enjoyed an excellent meal and a very reasonable bill.

Another visit to this great restaurant for our anniversary. As always the food was excellent along with the very attentive service. Every dish I’ve had here has been lovely and a special I tried tonight was the same. Until the next time.

Food was absolutely delicious, Thai fishcakes and Chicken Satay starter, followed by a Massaman curry. So flavoursome...!! They have an extensive menu, so we sought guidance, attentive host, and owner. Book in advance, its very popular, and they don't accept walk ins.

Booked Chao Baan as a surprise for out anniversary, had never been before and was intrigued by the reviews. Needless to say it did not disappoint. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was stunning. Really enjoyed visiting and will be back for sure. The Keang Saparod Goong was lovely as was the Pad Himmapan chicken. The honey dipping sauce with the start was soo nice as well.

Steve Benz seem able to get everything right at Chao Baan and the one thing they have in common (front of house and kitchen) is the attention to detail. It’s impossible for me to suggest even the slightest improvement the greeting, the ambience, the food, the service, all ten out of ten. We chose the chicken Pad Thai sharing plate and have never experienced that dish cooked in this way and with such taste and texture. I’m no culinary expert but what these two are doing deserves awards and recognition. Beautifully home cooked Thai food with Thai sourced ingredients served with style. There’s nothing better.

"Awful meal and even worse service. A place where the customer is always wrong! Cold food, undercooked naan breads (which were not eaten), tomato sauce rather than Indian curry with no spice or tasty, and a shortage of meat for a dish being charged at £14-16 per curry (without any extras). When this was brought to the attention of the lady front of house, she wanted to argue that the food wasn’t cold and the two naan bread were cooked. Shouting at us in front of her other paying customers. However neither naan bread had even a slice out of them, may as well have been raw dough. When you can see your fingerprint in the naan, you know it’s undercooked. She said that’s how they come. However we have eaten there a few times before so this wasn’t the case! No service, or at best slow service from start to end. And nobody came to check how our food was, (now I guess we know why) so my partner went to say something. We visited here after having a nice meal the last time but after the disgusting way the staff spoke to us, the terrible food and total lack of service, means that we will never come back. Never been spoken to like this from someone who is supposed to be employed for customer service, or at least supposed to try and make the customer happy. Being locals, she will lose out on the next 30 years of being our chosen local Indian and would rather go to Mumbai Lounge. Make sure you go somewhere else other than this place! Horrendous food and horrible service. Don’t visit Bengal Spice."
