"I have lived in Norfolk for over years, and have been aware of the “lost village of Heydon “ for many of those years. However foolishly I have passed by the Earl Arms on several occasions, lost for somewhere to treat ourselves for Sunday...Lunch, we booked the “ Earl” …. Well all I can say is WOW, fantastic, fabulous tasty food and plenty of it, I opted for the traditional roast beef, I wasn’t disappointed, cooked to perfection and just to my taste a little pink ! My wife fancied the Ham Egg chips, a good decision apparently plenty of thick cut ham and two eggs, absolutely heaven. We were so impressed we returned midweek with friends, and sampled the homemade Steak Ale pie, with chips and gravy of course optional to the creamy mash, plus the fact you get the opportunity to step back in time, with good old fashioned service friendliness , yes it could do with a bit of a paint up.. but that’s not the point…you don’t go for that, it’s all about the food, fantastic keep it up, well done, we will certainly be back… very soon, oh and forgot to say, excellent value."

Friendly welcoming pub with delicious food in this charming village. The landlady was lovely and so pleased that finally they are able to open their doors again.

from us and dogs enjoyed an excellent bar meal, served by very present and friendly staff, at a cozy table near the wood burner. for all of us including drinks, great value for money in one of the most atmospheric and unharmed pubs in norfolk. highly recommended!

this pub/restaurant is quite remote, but it is worth looking for, as it is wonderful to eat. we had both homemade pumpkin soup, which was beautiful and warming. I had the boeuf bourguignon with fresh vegetables that was beautiful, and my man had the steak pee, and I'm so glad I didn't order it as huge. my man has tried to finish his, but he didn't want to leave anything of it when he said it was fabulous.

We stopped here in the middle of a walk. It has a really traditional old style pub atmosphere. Our dog was welcomed into the room on the left. I ordered fish and chips and it was the best I've ever had! Batter was thin and crispy, not greasy, fish so fresh it melted in your mouth, tasty proper mushy peas with mint and crispy thin fries. Couldn't have had better at a fine dining restaurant. Very friendly service and candles lit on the table. What a little gem this pub is.

the earle arms was recommended to us by a local friend, they warn us not to look for a menu on the line because they do not do that, but that we would not be disappointed. so booked an early evening midweek table. the dining room is small and intimate. there was a big menu and a few specialties from which I decided to steak and ale-Pie, it came in a metal harness twice as big as I expected with a bowl full of kartoffels, green beans and beef. the gravitation in the cake was so good if not better than I ever tasted before, my wife chose a fish dish that also tasted very generous and wonderful. we had a dessert, but not a space! great friendly service and very cheap trips. we will definitely c...

"Where do I even begin? The service from the woman behind the bar was shocking. When I inquired about dairy-free options for my son, I was told that nothing could be modified and that they don't cater to allergies at all! I pointed out the menu's claim that they could accommodate such needs, but my concerns were met with an eye roll. I then tried to order him some chips, but was told they were fried in the same oil as dairy and meat products, and since we are vegetarian, that wouldn't work. I asked about the vegan dishes, only to learn that they are also prepared alongside meat products, so there's no guarantee they would actually be vegan. At this point, my daughters had already become excited about eating out and the play area, so I reluctantly decided to go along with it and ordered three sandwiches on granary bread and a child's fish and chips. My son had a packet of crisps. When the sandwiches arrived, they were absolutely terrible. The cheese and onion sandwich consisted of two slices of cheap store-bought bread, some pre-grated cheese, and a few onion slices—without even a hint of butter! It certainly wasn’t inexpensive; we paid £45 for four soft drinks, three sandwiches, and a child's meal. As for the play area, it was concerning—there were sharp screws poking through the wood chips, loose sharp fixtures on top of the slide, and a large exposed electric cable under the swings! We decided to leave swiftly; it was such a disappointing way to end our holiday, when it should have been a lovely final meal before heading home. I was appalled by their attitude towards me—I felt like an inconvenience. The food was awful, and I genuinely recommend avoiding this place if you are vegan or have allergies; even if a dish is labeled vegan, they certainly don’t take the necessary precautions to keep it separate from meat products. It’s truly unfortunate, as the location by the river is beautiful, and we were all so excited to be there, but we left feeling very disappointed. We definitely won't be returning."
