"Today, my aunt and I visited this restaurant. It was our first time seeing each other since lockdown, so we thought it would be nice to go out for lunch. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with our experience. We arrived at 11:55am and there were only two other tables of two already seated. We gave our names for track and trace, got shown to our table, and then waited for someone to come take our order for about 15-20 minutes. For starters, my aunt had pate and I had garlic mushrooms, which took 35-40 minutes to arrive. We then waited for our mains – scampi for my aunt and chicken curry for myself. After nearly 50 minutes of waiting, I asked how much longer it would be, only to be told another 15-20 minutes. In the meantime, a table of four were seated and immediately served with pizzas and burgers. When I inquired why they were served so quickly, I was told it was because they skipped starters. The couple next to us were still waiting for their food. Frustrated, my aunt and I decided to cancel our mains. To our surprise, they still charged us for the starters and drinks. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this restaurant."

My husband and I ordered a takeaway meal from this restaurant, taking advantage of the 3 course meal deal for £12.95, and it was delicious! Excellent value for the price, would definitely recommend.

I used to come here before covid, its was always a little getaway for me,so cozy and humble, service was always great and no matter what it was always an uplifting place. When there recently, what a change, dull and stale,it's now got no originality,it looks like every other pub now,may aswell be wetherspoons.Terrible service, rude front of house staff, menu very average.I WILL NEVER GO BACK!

I had a terrible experience here,so I called the restaurant to let them know and the manager was absolutely fabulous, she clearly knew what she was doing and even though it was bad she handled the situation perfectly. She alone has restored my faith in a place that I love, and I hope she does not get let down by young in-experienced staff. But she is worth her salt and I hope the owner reads this. View menu

Just had a lovely lunch here. All 5 of us had something different and it was all hot and tasty. My only criticism was the wait. I booked, as you have to, for 1230. We arrived on time was shown to a table and told there might be a short wait. Although they took our drinks order shortly after that it was 30 mins before they took our meal order which in turn meant our food arrived some hour after arrival. As I said food was excellent but left me little time to enjoy it as I'd only paid for 90 mins parking.

Hi, I just had lunch at Goldberry and wanted to share my experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, but unfortunately, the meal did not meet the usual standards of Goldberry. Additionally, when it was time to pay, we noticed a significant amount of debris on the ledge behind our chair, indicating poor cleanliness. We were also overcharged for our meal, which was disappointing. Overall, we were not satisfied with our dining experience and will not be returning to Goldberry. As a regular customer, I may have to reconsider my loyalty to this establishment. PS: There was also a loose electric wire along the floor, possibly for the sound system.

I ordered a takeaway which the staff were amazing it was ready when I got there. When I got home the food Was was still really hot. The chicken tempura was amazing as usual, but I ordered the chicken Sunday roast I was quite disappointed 3 roast potatoes which I would assumed were from fresh potatoes no there from frozen 1 Yorkshire pudding it was a big one and the chicken was hard at the bottom like it had been fried and a mear spoonful of gravy on it I’m a bit disappointed as I thought it would have been more fresher than what it was the food was still good but I’m just slightly disappointed in the roast dinner as it was my first time ordering that. We arrived for our lunch and were asked for our drinks which I asked for a white wine, was then told they had no sav blanc, then was offered pinot grigio to which was told they had non of that either! asked for anything they had after that. Between the two of us we ordered one starter which we waited 20 minutes for and then a further 50 minutes for main! Our main meal was in fact a sandwich and a baguette (no idea how it can take this long to make up a sandwich) In this time we waited a couple had got up to leave, a couple had sent back their food and another table were heading to leave. After around 30 minutes after ordering we then got a waiter coming up to say they had no brown bread.. af...

Food was low quality, wine is low quality, menu is bland and boring and staff spend more tim chatting at the bar than they do serving customers. We booked a table at the Goldberry, arrived in plenty time and were seated promptly, however that's where the good service ends. Our order was taken and over 60 minutes later, still hadn't arrived. The server informed us she hadn't even rang the food through and compd our 3 drinks each for the evening. Unfortunately, when the food did come a further 20 minutes after she had rang the food through to the kitchen, it was overcooked, dry and clearly been thrown together and fired out as quickly as possible. One cocktail tasted like fruit juice, I'm sure...

"Visited using an Itison voucher for steak surf turf. Decided to have soup for starters which was advertised as being served with freshly baked bread. The soup was served in a very small bowl and was tasteless. The bread was anything but fresh and felt and tasted like it had been lying in the back of a cupboard for a fortnight. Now for the steak. We asked for sirloin but was told there was none left and we would have to take ribeye. The steak arrived and one look put us off. This was certainly not ribeye and was more like some sort of reconstituted beef. I would have to say that it is the worst steak we’ve ever been served. The surf part was 3 sad looking small prawns that had been placed on top of the steak. The owner asked us how it was and we told him how dissatisfied and disappointed we were. To this comment he then became quite aggressive and told us to leave. He obviously doesn’t like criticism. We had our meal on a Saturday night and we’re the only people in the restaurant. Surely this must tell you something. We had booked the dining room but was told it was closed due to lack of clientele and that we would have to sit in the bar. We had been regular visitors and know that they recently lost their head chef who was very good. The food is now very substandard and nothing like the delicious food that was served by the previous chef. Come on Sorn…you need to do much better!!"

"On holiday in the area and found this place online for somewhere to eat. Menu looked great. Arrived and the impression we got with the mess around the building continued indoors. Lady who took us to our table was lovely but then it went downhill again quickly when we were given the menu definitely not what it was online). It was litterly falling apart and only a fraction of what was on the online menu. We ordered food and while waiting 2 women with 5 children came in. Noise from the children was heard as soon as they got to the front door. I don't believe any of the children were at fault as the women didn't try to get them to be just a little quieter they both just shouted louder to hear each other. Both my teenage daughter and I expected the waitress to ask them to maybe just turn the volume down just a little but it turned out she knew them and like the mums she just shouted louder to be heard! Food arrived hot. Steak pie was very tasty but pizza was the kind I can buy in supermarket for about 50p. Desserts of cheesecake and sticky toffe pudding both tasted odd. We didn't eat them and just left to get away from the noise. I totally understand the staff can't dictate who frequents their establishment but they could ask rowdy customers to lower the volume instead of shouting over them. Food was nothing to shout about and we left wishing we had just stopped at the local chip shop instead"

"As we were staying at the Dumfries House Lodge for a couple of nights we took the opportunity to visit the Library Restaurant which is a short stroll away from the guesthouse in Dumfries House itself. Little did we know as we approached the magnificent Robert Adam building in it’s glory on a bright and peaceful evening that we were about to have a private dining experience! By absolute chance there were no other reservations that evening and we had the restaurant to ourselves. Despite my attempt to convince my wife that I had paid a fortune for the privilege I don’t think she was entirely taken in for more than a few seconds. We understand that the following night was fully booked. The setting is quite unique as you are led from the visitors entrance through to the library which had a cosy atmosphere with a log fire burning, the grand mantelpiece surround, the comfortable settee, subtle lighting and a small bar. With our bottle of NZ Pinot Noir ordered and a glass poured we were able to browse the menu in comfort. There were five options for each course and all reasonably priced from starters at £6 £7, mains £12 £22 (steak) and dessert at £5 or cheese for £7. The young waiter, who was attentive but discrete throughout the evening was friendly and efficient. The dining area itself beyond was lined with book shelves and ten or so tables stylishly set with good spacing between although in the circumstances there were no issues with other diners! For starters my wife had Goats cheese with red onion and tomatoes whilst I opted for the Confit Duck Pie with duck scratching and salad. The duck was served in a ramekin style dish topped with mashed potato which was a surprise although the duck was tasty, as was my wife’s goats cheese. Mains for my wife was Chicken Ballantine stuffed with Shitaki served with parmesan gnocchi and spinach which she enjoyed. I had monkfish in butter, served with puy lentils, artichoke puree and herb sauce. The fish was delicious however puy lentils may be an acquired taste which I unfortunately haven’t acquired a taste for as yet and there were quite a lot of them! Dessert consisted of Lemon amoretti cheesecake with a berry compote for my wife and White chocolate panna cotta and a doughnut with an apple sauce for myself. My wife thought the berry compote drowned the other flavours and I thought my dish was just ok. Full marks for the setting, food presentation, service and pricing (our bill including wine was £85 ex tip) but we were slightly disappointed with the flavours of some of the food overall in comparison to our previous meal on the estate at the former Stables Restaurant. At time of our recent visit the restaurant was only open Thursday to Sunday. It is a possibility that in future this restaurant may only be available for private functions, with another being opened within the hospitality centre so we were glad in the meantime to have dined in the House in such exclusive circumstances. Sadly we were escorted off the premises!"
