The vegetarian options were good overall, except for the Thai curry, which was rather bland.

Lamb shank was nothing but fat and gristle. The "tiramisu was just a parfait with raspberries. A big disappointment food wise. The beer was good. Service mediocre Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3

Nice cosy place (book ahead! . Had their 'mighty vegan burger '. My boyfriend said it was one of the best vegan burgers I 've had . And trust me we 've had many. Lovely coconut rice pudding with fruit. Also have vegan fajitas, a salad and other bits and bobs.

We found this on our second night in Orkney, the food was really good, it’s labelled on the menu all allergens, there isn’t a lot of choice but we were just happy to have food that was labelled vegan. We had the vegetable pakoras, Thai green curry and sweet potato fries, there was also a Bhaji sandwich on the menu and vegetable fagitas

I had a pleasant experience at the restaurant, but the tofu katsu burger I tried was lacking in flavor. I’m giving a low rating because a dining companion ordered the cauliflower bites for their starter, which contained chicken, despite being someone who doesn’t eat meat. Because of this, I can’t fully recommend the place to other vegans. This update is from my previous review dated June 12, 2023.

It's great to see 3-4 vegan options on the menu, but I was disappointed with my experience. The cauliflower appetizer was very underwhelming—just five small pieces of cauliflower and a few salad leaves. As for the Tofu Burger, it lacked sauce on the bread, and the tofu tasted like a plain block of raw nature tofu without any seasoning. The highlight was a single forkful of coleslaw with a clever dressing that would have been much better suited for the burger. Overall, it felt like I paid a lot for very little flavor.

We visited Helgis twice. On our first visit, everything went smoothly. I enjoyed a delicious bowl of vegan soup of the day and a vegan burger. The service was satisfactory, although they accidentally brought us a pint of beer instead of a pot of tea. However, our second visit was less pleasant. There were two servers who ignored us for about five minutes, despite the pub being nearly empty. After they disappeared from sight, one server eventually approached us after ten minutes to ask what we wanted to drink. We mentioned that we were also interested in having something to eat (this was at 9 PM). At that point, they informed us that the kitchen closed at 9 PM, which I think should have been...

Went in one evening and was told the restaraunt was fully booked, even though there were clearly places to sit at the bar, and no inclination on wait times, when we could come back, or if we would like to book a reservation. We asked if we could book for the next day and made a reservation for the upstairs dining room. Upon arrival the following day we were given a table on the ground floor (not upstairs as originally reserved) and were met with terrible service. We had to repeat the drink choices four or five times as the gentleman serving us did not understand the menu, we eventually had to point it out on the menu card while he copied it to his notepad.
