"Really want to like this place as it has been highly recommended and is within walking distance of our new home. We've been twice within a couple of weeks simply for convenience. People working there are really lovely, but the very young staff don't seem to know what they're doing kids food came out long before adult food ready. There were then items missing off the plate that we had to request (no apology just laughed at the mistake . Chips massively overcooked, other items had clearly just been thrown in a deep fat fryer and came out dripping in oil (chicken schnitzel not good..! . We won't be rushing back, but we WILL give it another go in a few months to see if things improve as I really DO want to like it (the setting and beer garden are fantastic, so would definitely use it for drinks just not food . Hoping we simply caught them on two bad days."

Lovely food but over an hour wait. We were told of the delay, but there was even long waits for drinks to be brought over as if they were forgotten. No steak knife was provided with the mixed grill. Service was the only let down, everything else lovely. View menu

Sunday lunch at the Royal Oak was very good. The food was plentiful with a good selection of fresh vegetables. It was nice and hot and served on a warm plate with extra gravy in a little jug. All of the waiting staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Highly recommended.

Wanted a small snack for two served as main. Limited choice. Salad was only lettuce mainly with prawn cocktail for main, and over all the lettuce with the pate rather than on the plate. Asked for table in restaurant but ended up in lounge bar. Staff vey polite and helpful. Value for money ok.

Food was delicious. Service wasn't very good on this occasion. We felt as if we were waiting a long time for drinks initially and when we ordered coffee and a soft drink at the end of the meal. I didn't get my soft drink until well after the others had finished their coffees. We then had to wait ages to pay our bill. View menu

Despite booking on line in advance, for restaurant table , when we arrived the staff said they had no booking. We had to wait for a table in the bar area to be prepared which we found very noisy . Disappointed as previously we have not had an issue. Food and service was fine. We will book again and hope the booking is not lost and we get the area requested.

It is a beautiful pub. I booked for the bar and was put in the restaurant,it took a while for our order to be taken, one of the drinks was wrong and when staff told, we thought they would bring the right one, they didn't so had to ask again. Food took while to come but was lovely . The staff are super young which isn't a problem but I don't think they quite understand how to be aware of issues raised or how to deal with them. When wiping tables the crumbs were put onto the floor again not having that thought process of hygiene and cleanliness, the tables were sticky. Seems to have gone downhill a bit which is a shame.

"I booked a table for 2 really last minute on a busy December night, piccolio’s manger cosimo took the booking, he was so friendly and helpful that we really needed after a hard work in the cold winter weather! we went in and the restaurants that were breathtaking have woken us! the decor is stylish and above all it was so warm and cozy what we needed, we were greeted with smiles all around by every worker and was immediately taken on our table, without waiting time what ever! we were so swollen! Shortly after we sat, we tamara welcomed them beautiful, well presented and extremely polite. we thought up the menu, while tamara served us the most delicious Rosè Prosecco and took our orders. it was a hard choice, as we wanted to order one of all, the menu choices sound exquisite! so much choice and catering for all food requirements. my own and my friend decided to go for the spaghetti frutti di mare, which was absolutely inconceivable! muddle, mush and calamari topped with a huge garlic king prawn! it didn't take long until there were two empty teller and full bell! we stayed and talked together about the life and there was no hurry to move us from table to tamara has checked us we were so glad to have chosen piccolino chester for our girly dinner date and just wanted to say a massive thank you to cosimo, tamara and the piccolino team. I can't wait to come back to another fantastic evening."
