"Very warm friendly environment loved the decor wasnt told that the menu upstairs which we had booked only had certain menu which wasn’t much to offer and was told if wanted other food which my partner asked for a burger or something different as stated on the sites menu to be told we cant have anything from that menu unless u booked a table downstairs unfortunately when booking doesn’t tell u this so we had to order a couple of starters and leave and go somewhere else to get food such a shame as we love the rock lodge"

"Popped in for a coffee and decided to also go for the Brioche toast. Unfortunately service after ordering was really slow, three coffees all brought with long time gaps in between, and the two flat whites beared little resemblance to each other. Served in plastic cups, one with no saucer as they had apparently run out of plates. We gave up on waiting for the toast as we had finished the coffees. Then when it was mentioned at the till, the manager said it was my fault as I’d only said we were wanting coffee when asking about a table so we were not warned that there was a delay on food, but this same lady took our food order, so why were we not warned then.. not happy at attitude to customers or service and sadly we won’t be returning."

"This is the probably the best bar/restaurant in Whitstable. You can have a drink here before eating elsewhere with recommendations from the great staff or stay for a scrumptious meal in the bar or restaurant. The food and service are second to none. We had a lovely lunch without breaking the bank which isn’t easy in Whitstable. We had drinks another evening in a relaxed bar. Yes it’s only for children over 12 years (replying to the petulant comment below) but as a mother and grandmother it’s nice sometimes just to have a meal or drink without the little ones. I can’t recommend the Royal Naval Reserve enough. Thank you to the lovely staff and owners. We will definitely be back!"

"Our fourth time here. Fabulous meal this evening celebrating our anniversary. Never normally have chicken at a resturant, but knowing what a great chef he is I went for the chicken option for my main. AMAZING fabulous main never tasted chicken so good. The whole meal was fabulous. The Staff were attentive but not intrusive, atmosphere great. We had a fantastic evening. Will return during another season to sample another menu. Thank you to all at the Sportsman."

"Superb! We had dinner on a Friday night (5th April 2024) and it was 10/10 for all of us. The staff are excellent and the food was delicious. All freshly cooked, well presented and decent portions. I had the battered cod and chips and struggled to finish due to the size but it was so good I had a clean plate. My wife had a dish from the Asian section and you can tell it was cooked by an Asian chef. The smells coming from the kitchen were amazing. The home made Filapino ice cream is to die for. We shared a selection, all delicious the Purple Yam flavour was the best and a must try. Overall one of best valued meals we've had in a long long time and we eat out regularly at very nice Restaurants, Gastro Pubs etc. We'll done The Oyster Pearl!"
