"This place must be hit and miss as there are so many good reviews. Staff did the job but no more. I wouldn't say they were attentive. You order at the bar, they deliver the food and take the plates away. That's it. Didn't even offer a desert menu after clearing away the mains. Surroundings were basic and sparse. It wasn't the cosy pub feel I was expecting at an old thatched pub at such a destination. Starters of cheesy garlic bread were literally pieces of cheesy garlic bread thrown on a plate. The eaters said they were nice but it looked basic. Breaded mushrooms were watery and tasteless. Lamb shank was good but accompanying veggies weren't. Fish and chips were described by those who had them as probably the worst they'd had. I wish they had said and I'd have sent them back. Real shame as it's in a great location."

Wonderful place to while away a few hours sitting beside the canal towpath. Good for people watching. Excellent food and friendly, obliging staff.

Regular customers always have sandwiches and always a little early but on this occasion asked for them same as usual but the chef refused didn't need any cooking so don't know why it was a problem won't eat here again was after 14 years of going View menu

In my opinion there is no better place to eat in this country. The service is second to none. Excellent friendly pub where everyone including dogs are welcome. They serve proper pub food which is always fresh and delicious. Everything we have tried from the menu has been lovely. Would highly recommend.

Arrived with a friend for lunch. Food took 3/4 hr to arrive. My friend had a burger which he said was ok. I had fish and chips. Chips were satisfactory, but oh the fish. I almost asked for a hacksaw to cut it. Hard as a rock. Batter disintegrated, my dog wouldn’t touch it. Fish itself was hard and dry. Won’t be eating there again

There were 6 family members and we all had different meals. I would say it was traditional pub food with excellent quality, good presentation, and service, I don't know how Matt the chef cooked his chips but they were out of this world. None of us left anything on our plates. The choice of beers was very good. Certainly will be going back. Well done. View menu

What a lovely friendly pub! Stayed in the village for a few days and came here over the course of 4 days for evening meal, lunch, breakfast and also drinks. The choice of food on the menu was very good, it was also very tasty. The staff are very friendly, lots of different seating areas a lovely view if you’re sitting outside by the canal. A nice ice cream parlour with lots of different flavours of gorgeous ice cream. I also purchased some breakfast sausages to take back as they were so tasty. Well done everyone, keep up the good work.

Been a customer, for a few years mainly lunchtimes, sometimes three times a week. The Staff are wonderful always acknowledge us. some even use our first names; really nice and friendly. The owning two brothers seem to be more than happy to walk through the public area without saying anything, with out acknowledging the customers. It would be so nice to even hear a hello or everything OK . I know they have owners responsibilities and possibly worry, but a few seconds to acknowledge customers would be more than welcome-both to existing and new customers.

"we had read very good reviews about the green room, me and 2 friends who have not seen themselves for a few years decided to go for the afternoon. we telephoned, booked afternoon tea and paid our deposit 2 days before. when we arrived. the waiter took us on our table and said: “I’m sorry, but the system didn’t update, so they didn’t know that we wanted to go the afternoon.” that seemed very strange when they had taken the deposit from us 2 days ago! the waiter said we had to order from the normal midday menu. after we had eaten our salad! we wanted to order 3 coffees, I asked the waitress if we could order coffee, her answer was: “It’s difficult because I don’t have a pen!” I didn’t reply, there are only 3 coffees and cakes. I then asked about the bill that lasted about 15 minutes when they finally arrived, they had not taken the deposit we had previously paid, and the waitress said: "She must talk to the manager, I explained that I stayed 10 minutes on the parking lot, so she could be fast. When I asked her what happened to the bill she said, they must go into the bar and sort it with the manager. I was very annoyed by the lack of customer service, not only had they forgotten our afternoon, but had also accused the wrong crowd. he was quite arrogant and served other people and let us wait. he said he would take £11 for the mistake with the afternoon! it is a shame that eating and the environment is very beautiful. Unfortunately, the customer service makes this place so much down. it is safe to say we will never return or will not recommend it to one of our friends."
