"Stopped off hungry and thirsty on the way back from Rowardennan.. Were met by a warm welcome from friendly fella in a kilt which is always a good start.. Despite all tables being booked for dinner a quick discussion on how long we were staying allowed us to be seated in the front conservatory.. Both of us ordered the haddock and chips and a couple of soft drinks.. The service was fast and friendly.. We were told that we would struggle with finishing the fish n chips.. He wasn't kidding.. What a portion, but what struck me most was the quality of the fish.. And the batter on the fish was the best I can remember having.. Throw in a plate o chips that would have fed four, mushy peas that even ma son ate and I can honestly say I'd go out of my way to return.. Top marks all round.. Free car park across the road was a wee Brucie bonus too.."

"We discovered this fantastic cafe while on a bike tour and decided to stop for coffee and a snack. The food was excellent and the staff was incredibly friendly. It's just a short detour off the main road through Drymen, and well worth the visit. You won't be disappointed, and the homemade Victoria sponge cake is absolutely delicious."

"Visited while away for the night, popped in for a drink in the afternoon, sat by a roaring open fire which was lovely, man on the bar called Chris was so welcoming and friendly and was happy to chat with us to the point we...enjoyed so much we returned for dinner that evening, food was lovely cooked fresh to order and tasty and our waitress kat could not have been more helpful and attentive, we ended the rest of the evening sat at the bar chatting away to them both and hope management will pass on our review to let them know they made our very rare nights away very special and we can not thank them enough, we will be back and book to stay over next time instead of where we did"

"On our way to Buchanan castle (amazing find btw driving along stirling road we happened to pass a sign for this place. Wanting coffee, my fiancé, my dad and I stopped to check it out. After parking in the gravel parking lot, we walked to the into the beautiful magically themed courtyard (not over the top, but a perfect touch After entering the Soup Dragon Cafe we noticed a few vegan options on the daily specials board, glancing at the menu we saw it was peppered with vegetarian and vegan options, and upon ordering our coffee, we discovered to our delight that there were four options for vegan “milks”! There was also a display case with 5 baked goods, two of which were vegan (the one we tried [fondant pastry I think] was out of this world We tried a vegan haggis roll (super tasty), as well as the sausage sandwich (also good). Can’t recommend this place enough! The atmosphere was perfect, everybody was very nice, the food was delicious and reasonably priced, the shop also seemed to sell post cards and a few other things. There was a community book shelf of donated books in the courtyard as well, and if we hadn’t been in such a rush we would have undoubtedly stayed longer to enjoy the area! Perfect place to stop by if your ever driving by Killearn or Ballfron — it’s right on the way to Buchanan Castle and queen Elizabeth forest park if you’re coming from the stirling area. It’s right off the main road, and is easy to access."

"After being disappointed elsewhere, my party and I ended up at this restaurant around 2pm for lunch on a Sunday. Located in a quiet village, we weren't expecting much, but after entering the hotel from the car park, we were greeted at reception and invited in for lunch. It appeared to be the Merlin restaurant rather than the Ptarmigan bar. We were surprised to find the place empty, but our concerns were quickly laid to rest. The 3-course set lunch menu offered a limited but satisfying selection. The food arrived swiftly, was beautifully presented, piping hot, expertly cooked, and generous in portion size. Our starters included soup, melon, and prawns, followed by roast beef and salmon, and finished with lemon tart and cheese. The only downside was the lack of ambiance due to being the only patrons present, which prevented me from giving it a perfect score. However, I must say that the experience was excellent, definitely worth seeking out, and a great value. I'm still puzzled as to why the place was empty - it would be fully booked for weeks back in my hometown."
