"My parents and I came here for dinner tonight to end up being thoroughly disappointed with our experience. I will begin by stating that the food was lovely especially the spaghetti and fish soup for starters. However, the service is below average and truly appalling. We reserved a table for the restaurant 2 days before coming only to find out that they never took down our reservation in the first place (this was the first disappointing thing out of many things to come). While they sat us for dinner still, the mains took around 45 minutes to come after our starters. There was no sauce available with the steak I asked for bernaise sauce, which is pretty standard for steak (especially for the price you’re paying at the Hardwick). We also ordered chocolate ice cream for dessert after giving the dessert menu they came back after 20 minutes to take our order and when we asked for the ice cream flavours, they had to bring us a separate ice cream menu this in itself took another 20 minutes. All of this was for nothing though they forgot our ice cream order and we had to look for the staff to tell them to cancel the order and bring our bill. The most disappointing thing out of all of this is that after we payed our bill we were about to leave and a waitress came running while we were in the car and accused us of not paying. We had to tell her that of course, we did pay, and she had failed to acknowledge the mishaps that happened on the restaurants’ part until we brought it up, only for her to say a brief sorry. My father went inside again just to clarify that we had paid (we knew we had, but we did it for our own conscience). This was beyond insulting for us given we ordered a great deal of food and wine. I was shocked that we were insulted to this extent. Again, I will reiterate that the food was lovely. But given how poor our experience was and the premium charged on the food, I will definitely not recommend this place to anyone and will not be looking to come back again. Something is seriously wrong and there needs to be serious reflection."

Beautiful place, food was excellent staff were very friendly. The restaurant was very clean, tidy, and very well presented. If I had anything to say, the tables in the bar area could have done with a wipe down. If you enjoy well cooked and well presented food, please visit The Hardwick Service: 5 Location: 5 View menu

Accomodation very good, clean and tidy. Food was excellent, well thought out taste and presentation. A good amount of various flavours, but not enough to overcomplicate the plate. Also enough food not to leave hungry. Service was fantastic even though it was my first visit I left feeling like I was a regular guest. A well oiled operation that makes you feel at home very quickly. Well done! Defiantly requires a return visit.

Great food and service. Wasn't too busy for a Saturday lunch time. Starter of duck hash with a soft-boiled duck egg, endive and a subtle sweet orange sauce, was a delicious choice. Chicken schnitzel for a main course didn't sound inspiring, but was in a very tasty brown butter sauce, with hints of a real umami flavour. Didn't come with any carbs component, so I also ordered triple-cooked chips which were very crispy and good, although possibly not the best choice to go with the chicken.

We live only 20 miles away, but I booked a room so we could have a nice relaxed time with some aperitifs, good wine with the meal, and a digestif. We chose the Hardwick as we've been there before and enjoyed it, good honest food, no unnecessary bits, well cooked. I read in the local paper that they had a large sum of money stolen by their accountant, and nearly folded, so we chose to go to the Hardwick. I am a wheelchair user, and was helped by the staff, they were all delightful, and the food was outstanding, I can't eat much meat, especially red meat, so I had a fish starter and vegetarian main, delicious and lots of it. I am really impressed with the resilience of the owners and staff, ha... View menu

Horrendous and very disappointing experience had by all 8 of our party. Took 1.5 hours to get our starters and then a further hour for our mains, even though the restaurant wasn’t that busy. 1 out of the 8 starters came out 10 minutes before everyone else’s and no cutlery was brought out for the soup. Staff were basically non existent, we had to wait ages to find someone to get cutlery, more drinks, etc. I would also strongly recommend people with allergies DO NOT go here. The kitchen staff do not take it seriously, and although it was all over the order that 1 of us had coeliac disease, the food was still brought out containing gluten and some of the plate eaten before realising. Once makin...

Booked a table for 2. Waited 40 minutes before anyone even approached us to take a drinks order and our starter and that was because I had to ask. Placed our order for starter, main, dessert. Starter arrived after 20 mins of ordering which took us up to an hour. It then took 1 hour and 5 mins for our main to arrive. Had to prompt the staff when we wanted another drink and to ask for the jug of ice water eveyone else had on there table. Finished our main. Waiter came over and ask do we want dessert. We explained we had ordered it when we ordered the starter. 20 more mins go by this time we generally felt exhausted. Finished the dessert and was ready to leave. Nearly 3 hours total for a table...

"Knowing that my family and I would be in Abergavenny around lunchtime prior to a walk up Sugar Loaf, I took the rare step of being prepared by looking up a tea shop that served cream teas with clotted cream (any civilised person would of course faint into their jam at the sight of whipped! and didn't close at 2pm (as if everyone's appetite sticks to a schedule . Meeting those requirements alone would have been enough to get a good review, but I was genuinely delighted by The Little Treat. From the moment we walked in, our every need was met. We thought we'd have trouble finding a table as the only one remaining was for 2 people (there were 4 of us , but the lovely gentleman behind the counter asked if we'd like that table and then immediately brought 2 extra chairs over and ensured that we were comfortably sat with menus ordering was prompt and correct. His colleague delivered our food and, when it became clear that there would be a slight delay in my daughter's order, brought over complimentary drinks. The food was excellent neither pretentious nor poor quality. Both our hosts were unfailingly polite, but sincerely so, and genuinely warm. The service alone was worthy of note if all catering establishments were like this then the world would be a happier place but the food left us all satisfied as well. I really look forward to next time we're in Abergavenny so we can visit again."
