The Maldon Smokehouse

visited the smokehouse today and managed to get a table despite the fact that it was crazy busy! the personal was wonderful, very welcoming and helpful and despite the whole house attentive and eating was his usual excellent standard. we always have a great time when we come here and today there was no exception. thanks to all in the smokehouse!

We tried a selection of different mains and shared them between the table. All of the food was of outstanding quality, and the seafood selection was delicious. Scallops and prawns pan fried was a firm favourite, we'd definitely return to eat here again. Bring your...own booze is a huge plus and allows you to splash out a bit more on the yummy food.

Me and my partner had a lovely brunch on Sunday, the weather was beautiful and allowed us to eat on the terrace. The views on the river were enjoyable while eating. The seafood platter was perfect for 2 people, with excellent side orders. The service...was quick and the waitress attentive, helfpul and very friendly. You can’t book a table, so make sure you arrive early to avoid disappointment. I would definitely recommend this little gem and will be returning on my next trip to Maldon.

We visited this place today. It came highly recommended. Sadly, if you aren’t a local you will be ignored and treated like a nuisance by wait staff. We seated ourselves as we were told to do and three tables of locals, who arrived after we...did, were served. We waited half an hour before our waitress bothered to come over and take our order. The food isn’t good enough to make up for the staff. I’m well aware that coming from London we expect better but the service was dire. Added to that, the very limited menu wasn’t explained to us. Also, parking is a massive problem so I would say swerve this joint.

First off if you want a table overlooking the river, on a fine day but you need to arrive early, you can only book a table if you are a large group 8 or more. Its best to walk from the town centre or Tesco...and work up an appetite. Four of us each had a Seafood Overboard a selection of seafood on a wooden plater served with a variety of bread which we all agreed was delicious. The desserts were great and good to share after the main course feast. One big bonus is taking your own wine what you might have spent on an expensive wine at restaurant prices you can spend instead on the food! After years of thinking we'd do, today we finally did it. Friendly and professional staff, great to sit out by the river and whilst the menu choices are limited, you're bound to find something you enjoy. We made it into a kind of tapas lunch,...nibbles to start then four starter plates to share between two. Do that again soon! The limited parking can be a challenge and if your car is a bit low, you'll scrape on the ground on the way in so just take it easy. Delighted that the ladies who blocked us in also left a note on our windscreen with a phone number so they could let us out now that's considerate. Negatives? We had been recommended to eat here by friends and tried it out before a larger lunch gathering. Don’t be put off by the access an unadapted road. Get there early if you want to park otherwise park at the large Tesco and walk...around. Starter of salt and pepper squid was super. Really fresh, perfectly cooked. Time before main arriving was in my mind too long. Main courses overpriced for what they are though the sharing platter looked amazing and good value in comparison. Scallops and prawns in a broth were over cooked and probably something to do with being on the pass too long. What a great find The Maldon Smokehouse is. . . I have a heavy work schedule that opened up on this sunny Wednesday afternoon, where an impromptu visit was treated to a warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere, complimented by some excellent food and fantastic service....We brought a chilled bottle of Sauvignon Blanc with us, were invited to help ourselves to glasses on the way through, and plopped ourselves down on a bench outside by the river. Cancer in brine are not a substitute for crushed crab claws. if they don't have them, then their chef must tell the poor waitress that instead of just serving what he has, not what is on the menu, and explain them. Lobsters... with roe in the march? They didn't look at theatrical and I suspected that the dry and bladder appeared frozen. to overdo everything we decided not to order anything else, but only to pay for our ancestors who were accused of being rude and annoying the waitress at their first day, which was not true at all. the only rude person there was the woman who was responsible, incredibly rude, and since 30 years worked in the hospitality industry I know how to treat customers...
