"Post-Lockdown Lunch at The White Lion Costerworth 24th July 2020Like many people we have just ventured out for the first time for lunch after lockdown and therefore we were both excited and a little apprehensive of what it might be like to meet friends at a pub for lunch. if you are in a similar state of mind then by all means go to the White Lion at Cosyerworth if you can, because they make the whole experience absolutely relaxing and food is also excellent! They have taken every precaution so that the waitress is masked and you take items from her tray. Condiments are brought in sachets and the whole atmosphere is one that is very welcoming and as relaxed as it can be in the circumstances. The food it was thoroughly excellent and all home-made; two of us had the beer-battered haddock which literally hungover the large plate such was the size, and the chips were proper thick home-cooked chips which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside so they had obviously been properly double cooked. The others had the homemade pie of the day, which was declared excellent, and a filo pastry dish with cheese which was also excellent and huge in proportion. The apple pie, and ginger sponge, available with custard or ice cream or cream were both also huge and excellent as were the coffees. We were also very pleasntly surprised at how reasonably-priced everything was when the bill came too!So if you are still worried about dining out Post Lockdown and you are within driving distance of the White Lion at Colsterworth I do thoroughly recommend it as you will enjoy the experience hugely."

Just had a lovely birthday lunch for my daughter. They were very accommodating, friendly and the food was great. We booked in advance and gave our order for ten of us. They let us bring our cake and brought it out lit for us. Thank you so much for making my daughter’s birthday with her friends special.

Hubby booked us in here last minute and they were so accommodating! My Dad is disabled and they were so good with him. My Dad and I had had the vegetarian plant burger and it was one of the best vege burgers I have ever had (being a vege for 20 years) and my Dad is not a vege and is hard to please and loved it too! Yummy chips. Super excellent service too alongside home cooked comfort food! Thank you, it was a tricky day for us and you guys made it special! View menu

I travel regularly and have seen a varying attitude and service post lockdown. This pub has appropriate and well managed measures in place but still feels welcoming, the distancing and cleanliness measures are clear to be seen whilst they have become more and more lacking in other places. The staff are very welcoming, the menu is still diverse and offers my rather fussy family some great choices, lovely Sunday lunch also served across more flexible hours than most, well worth a visit.

We called in today on our way home. We called and reserved a table, on arrival we were shown to our table ,drinks order taken quickly and menus delivered to browse. We ordered our meals despite being earlier than they would normally serve. The staff were very welcoming and attentive without being intrusive we all had different meals and were all thoroughly enjoyed. The meats were all good quality and lots of options to have with you’re mains. Despite it being a cold day we were given a warm welcome and delicious and warm food served Great job in difficult times.

Came for lunch on a Friday. Very impressed with the precautions taken and given a warm welcome. Had haddock which was delicious PROPER chips) and others in the party had chicken and asparagus pie and the feta, butternut squash and spinach pie. The feta was replaced with Stilton we were asked if that was OK first) but this was pronounced 'delicious '. Portions were generous. The pudding portions were huge and also very successful. Very good value and will certainly go again. The only negative was that there was no elderflower cordial or presse available, but husband had to make do with a nice white wine instead. This was not a sacrifice. View menu

Our party of 8 ate at the pub last night. As we left it late to book a table we pre-ordered our meals. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was extremely welcoming, the bar and waiting staff were very polite, professional and couldn't have done anymore for us. Now to the food ... some of us had starters, which were delicious. The mains were very well presented, absolutely delicious and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. They were all cooked to perfection. Desserts only two of us had room for one and yet again they said they were lovely. If we were this way again, we would definitely have a meal here again and we all thoroughly recommend it to all.

Recommended by the receptionist at the travel lodge. Although she did say she hadn't eaten there. On driving through the village, we were full of high hopes for a quaint little country pub. When turning the corner into the car park, it reminded me of a school. However internally its OK. Quick service at the table but warm wine. I had to ask for ice to cool my wine. Starter of pate and garlic bread with cheese was really tasty. Although lettuce wasn't necessary as the garnish on pate. Turkey lunch disappointing. Plenty turkey but the veg was bland, the pigs in blankets were far too herby and the gravy salty. (And I fear, instant). Roasties had obviously been sitting all day. They were stale,...

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
