"Y Cantreff is a hidden delight. Visited on a wet Friday night on a short break in the area and were bowled over by the delicious home cooked food. Lovely curried parsnip soup with fresh warm sourdough loaves followed by a tasty lamb cawl and fish chips with some of the best chips we've eaten this year. Puddings also great though we only had room for one between us! A very warm welcome from Lynette and her two well behaved spaniels just added to the feeling of being home from home. Inn split between pub and restaurant sections, the latter being a lovely room with character. Alex is an excellent chef and all the staff were attentive and helpful the only shame is that there weren't more guests to enjoy (possibly due to the awful weather). Will definitely visit again when next in Abergavenny."

Called in mid afternoon for some lunch and a celebratory drink. Quaint pub that has been lovingly done up, without spoiling its charm.

Food was rubbish and service poor! On request to change food as the meat was undercook the owner told us it was fine and it must of been us.

We stumbled across this pub after a family walk to sugarloaf mountain. Warm, welcoming atmosphere and really friendly locals. We were blown away by the delicious food. We’ll definitely will make the trip from Bristol to come here again.

We were informed the heating had failed and the restaurant area may be cool so please use the bar area where we have a wood burner. This did not distract from what was a warm welcome with excellent food. Will we go back? Easy answer. Yes!

Went for a meal with some friends and the food was absolutely amazing. Scallops were so good. The staff were also really friendly and helpful making it one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Would definitely recommend and go again

Drove past this place on our way back from Sugar Loaf and it was a lovely surprise there is a beautiful garden outside, hidden round the back, which was a lovely sun trap with comfy garden chairs and benches. The food was also excellent and very friendly staff who run it!

This was a last minute choice when deciding to have a meal prior to going to the theatre. The pub doesn’t normally serve food until 6.30pm and we arrived at 5.50pm. The owner immediately said ‘no problem ‘. The pubs decor is beautiful, very rustic and cosy. Within minutes we felt as if we were with old friend. Huge variety of beer, delicious menu and nothing was too much trouble. I had fish in beer batter and my daughter had chicken Kiev. Food was without doubt one of the most delicious meals we’ve had in sometime. Don’t change a thing as everything was perfect, atmosphere, food, beer, service and welcome.

We have enjoyed a drink here a number of times since moving to Abergavenny and kept saying we must come for a meal, very glad that we did last Saturday. The welcome has always been friendly in the bar and this was matched in the restaurant. The menu was varied and a change from the usual pub fare. The service was prompt and attentive, the two courses we each had were of an extremely high standard in both taste and presentation. The monk fish and pork belly were delicious, perfectly cooked with very generous portions. The décor is excellent, a great deal of thought and effort has obviously gone into making the place comfortable and welcoming. If you haven't tried this pub recently you too wil...
