"We ate here on our first night in Trier. My husband had the Sauerkraut Platter with Sausages and I had the Goulash and both dishes were delicious. They were also very large meals. In fact the meals were so good that we decided to eat here on our second and last night in Trier. Our second night was a Monday night and when we got there we found out that it was all you can eat Chicken Wings and Fries night so we decided to give it a go. The wings were delicious, the seasoning in the crumbs was very tasty. The chips were also delicious. Our only complaint would be that they were so delicious that we ate too much.We were served by the same waitress both nights and she was excellent. On our first night, we had some other people come in and sit just up from us with a very smelly dog and we did not want to eat our meal with this smell close by. We asked the waitress if we could move and she assisted us to move without any hesitation at all which we very much appreciated. I did not get her name but she indicated that she is studying Environmental Science. This restaurant is an excellent option if you want very good food at a reasonable price."

The food was good and so was the beer. The outdoor seating was nice in the warm weather. The menu was mostly typical German food.

We were there on November 7th 2016.6 Greeks. The place is great, the food excellent, the prices decent. The music and the atmosphere unique. It's not at the center of Trier. It' nearby ERA ( Αcademy of European Law). A beautiful place indeed.

Good food, good value. We dropped in for supper after a long day, and had straightforward pork and coleslaw; the waitress was particularly helpful in selecting a good local wine. A place to relax and put the feet up - at least metaphorically ,anyway. View menu

We were staying at the Hotel Villa Hugel down the street and tried this place based on a Trip Adviser recommendation. They don't speak much English but we asked for the wi-fi password and used google translate... I recommend the cold roast beef with fried potatoes - some of the best potatoes I had in Germany. We enjoyed local white wines here, too, Though we were in a non-smoking section, smoke blew in from an open door to the smoking patio - another table away from the door would have made our experience more enjoyable. Pricing is very reasonable!

We ate here our first night in Trier and liked it so much we booked a reservation for an outside table the 2nd night. It's not just German food-they have several daily specials like fish, trout, and pulled pork with BBQ sauce. We had 2 large fresh crisp salads, one with pan-seared chicken breast and the other with steak. The appetizer was escargot which was the best I've ever had. The next night we had the schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce that was wonderful. We ate indoors the first night and outside on the patio the next night. Both offered a very nice atmosphere. Highly recommend!

A couple of quick things about this place, the ambiance is lovely, the food is good and the beer was wonderful. My wife had a Radeburger, but I went with the hausbiers, both an unfiltered kellerbrau as well as the dunkel. Both were very tasty. The best thing though was the attitude of the staff. My son, who is autistic views grilled cheese as a comfort food when he is stressed, and it was a hard day for him.. Grilled cheese is NOT on their menu, however, the waiter went and talked to the cook and they were able to make him a good old American style grilled cheese. Really wonderful of them to accommodate him, it made things so pleasant, Can't say enough about the good feeling in the restauran... View menu

We were staying just along the road at Villa Hugel for 9 nights. Ate in the Hotel three times and that was superb but discovered this Brauhaus which is actually called Brahaus Zum Alten, in which the food, the facilities, the staff are all fantastic. We went a few times, can highly recommend the flammkuchen with chorizo, all of the Schnitzels and the Bratkartoffeln. The Weiss Beer is excellent and they have a great selection of very reasonably priced local wines. It has a beer garden outside and there is a separate smoking area inside that's effectively sealed off from everyone else. Nice building filled with bits and pieces of old brewery equipment. Staff very helpful, if your german is not...

Zum alten Brauhaus is a great place to eat traditional German food in Trier. The restaurant is located somewhat out of the city center, but it was close to our hotel. The restaurant is split in a smoking and a non-smoking part. Naturally we preferred to sit in the non-smoking area, which is a little less cosy than the smoking area. The dishes on the menu are mostly typical German food, although I found it (as a non-german speaker) hard to read the hand written menu. Staff was very helpful in explaining the dishes, so that wasn’t to big of a problem.I had the snales (schnecken) as a starter and porc fillets with spicy tomato sauce as a main dish. Both the dishes were very tasty and were served...
