"We had heard good things about The Carpenters Arms after reading the reviews and had been past on the way to and from King's Lynn and liked the look of the place, so went as a family of 4 for a Sunday treat. It's very easy to find, has lots of free parking at the restaurant and the place has quite nice kerb appeal. It all looks really nice. We had booked so we're showed to our table and were soon drinking fizzy pop looking at the menu. There's a good choice and we were all hungry (and we eat A LOT) so opted for a 3 course dinner (which turned into 4 and then 5 for me) our starters were halloumi, Stilton mushrooms and 2x paté and ciabatta, mains were to be 2 large roasts, a smaller roast and a steak pie and mash. Starters: The halloumi was deliciously cooked in tempura batter and very nice and crispy apparently. Good start! The paté was also very tasty, but both said they wished there was more bread as there wasn't enough for the paté quantity. The mushrooms were lovely and cheesy, but not really stilton y more melted cheddary and a bit cheese saucy. Mains: the best by far was the pie and mash! Although the mash seemed to be Smash not mash it all went down very well. The roasts weren't rubbish the Yorkshire pudding was very good, the roast potatoes were hot and fluffy (not crispy) and the meat felt like it had been under a heat lamp for an hour or so, so the pork was a bit tough and hard to cut and chew. The beef however was cut so thin it looked like it had just been cut at the deli counter. Don't get me wrong, it all tasted OK and was all edible and stuff, but it was just a bit... average. Not bad, but not that good either. Dessert: Plum pie and cold custard for me, for the other 3 a sticky toffee pud and cold custard, another sticky toffee with cream and an Eton mess. The plum pie was OK, but the custard was Asda brand or Lidl or Aldi or something, so it was a bit thin and very very sweet. The sticky toffee looked and tasted delicious! Best dessert all round. The Eton mess however was exactly that, a bit of a mess. It was basically a strawberry smoothie with very little broken up meringue and what there was, was floating at the top. I ordered one after my plum pie to see what it was really like and I basically drank mine, very little meringue and the smoothie seemed... slightly warm. I ordered a couple of coffees to wash down the food and decided to order a cheese board to share with the table. It's a nice looking board as someone's Dessert, and comes with 3 chunks of cheese, brie, cheddar and Stilton and a selection of crackers, a bit of chutney and a side salad. The brie was sent back because it was old and crunchy and very sad looking and a new bigger piece that was lovely and soft arrived MUCH better. Overall the entire experience was OK. There was nothing terrible about it. The atmosphere was friendly, the place looked nice, and the servers (especially Josh who ran back and forth a bit for us) were accommodating and friendly and professional. The food wasn't bad, it was OK, but it wasn't great either. There was a couple of highlights but they were generally overshadowed by the mediocrity of the rest which is a shame because it could be a great restaurant. Weirdly, there seemed to be an abundance of house flies which was a bit annoying to keep shooing them away. TL:DR; Lovely location, with great staff and service, but let down mainly by mediocre food at the chosen price point. After spending £150 trying LOTS of food we came away saying we were a bit disappointed. We were glad we tried it but won't be returning unfortunately. The Sunday lunch was too die for. 5 veg, great roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding was huge and the pork was the best I have ever had. Well done to all involved. I will definitely go there again. Parking: No problems, several parking slots available. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner

We have passed many times. Yesterday we stopped. A great meal cooked fresh, good beer and Low Alcohol Ghost Ship too. Marinated chicken with Stilton sauce, vegetables and potatoes. I can see why it is so popular. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 View menu

Disappointing. I had the roast beef which was pre packed rubbish, my wife had the beef pie with chips. Pie was ok but had to send back because the chip had clearly been re-fried. Service was very slow with very little care and poor attention to detail shame coz I had read the reviews so feel a very let down. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner

We visited The Carpenters Arms for the first time, and it definitely met our expectations. We both ordered the Sunday roast, and I can honestly say it was the best we've ever had at a pub. The food was genuinely homemade and had an incredibly delightful taste. While everything was spectacular, I have to highlight the gravy – it was truly the best I've ever experienced. Thank you, Carpenters Arms – we’ll be returning soon! Service: Dine-in.
