"What a gem. On a father and daughter day I was taken for a lunchtime treat Italian restaurant. Tucked away down an unassuming dead-end side street off the market square. Wasn't obvious a restaurant was there, I said are you sure we are going the right way? Led by my daughter we entered il Girasole. A lovely Italian restaurant. Pleasantly greeted we were shown to our prebooked table. We had our starters breads dipping oils and olives. Three different dipping breads, sesamee twist, tomato bread focaccia. Which later, during our main course, we could see the breads being freshly made and baked. Our main, recommend by my daughter whom had been here a few times before, was breaded king prawn linguine with a creamy mushroom and cherry tomato sauce finished with a sprinkle of red chilli. So nice. There was banter with the owner I think, over the grating of this huge block of parmesan cheese. Interior decor is tired if not authentic, adding to the ambience. I am taken by this restaurant and will definitely be returning very soon. Highly recommend. Afterwards, ice cream in hand, we watched a few bands, musicians and artist perform on the market square. A perfect day. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

Visited mid week so wasn't massively busy. Starters were decent but my main (risotto) was bland and tasteless, a real disappointment, my partners main was delicious however. The garlic bread didn't really taste of garlic. Service was good and prices fair Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Il Girasole definitely underwhelmed for a birthday meal with friends. Couldn't decide whether waiter was hard of hearing or simply didn't understand the order of garlic bread to be brought out with the mains. That was the evening highlight. The gnocci was inedible, the spaghetti chopped up, as though for a child, and the atmosphere non existent. It was hottest day in September so the lack of atmosphere can be excused, but white wine spritzer with ice, served in 3 glasses, really? Beer £8 a pint, too. I don't like being harsh, but the place needs to up its game. I'm sure that others have had a much better experience but I felt let down. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30...

This is a lovely little restaurant with and authentic feel. The food was OK, I don 't think I ordered the right dish. My partner had the Gnocchi con Pancetta which was delicious. I had the Linguine Marinara which was very disappointing. The prawn hadn 't been deveined and the calamari and mussels were overcooked. Aside from that I was expecting a creamier sauce this was my own fault since the menu said Linguine with mussels, calamari, prawns and clams, cooked with chillies, garlic ,white wine and cherry tomatoes Aside from the problems with the dish I think it would 've been good just not for me. If I come here again I 'll definitely be trying something else! P.S. The Aperol Spritz was great...

"We 're looking forward to trying the Pheasant again on a normal day. We went on Boxing Day and it was pretty disastrous. Meant to be a treat but it certainly wasn 't. Starters were nice, no cooking involved apart from the pesto. Then the mains. The beef was grey, not pink as I was told it would be but it was tender. The roast potatoes tasted a bit old but there were plenty. The Chantenay carrots were very soft. The Savoy cabbage was perfect but the portion was tiny. The gravy was nice but we got a different variety when we asked for more. The Yorkshire pudding was the main disaster; it seemed old, and very hard to the point of shattering. Desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was fine although the serving of sauce was very mean. The clotted cream with it is, in my opinion, the best way to serve this pudding, it 's a relief from all the sweetness. The apple crumble was terrible; it came in a bowl with the custard already in it with the pudding. The apple was sour and the crumble was squidgy stodge. The service was fine although some staff not yet fully professional. We would have expected a welcoming hello and goodbye but that didn 't happen. Our overall feeling was that there was serious penny pinching going on with the mains and desserts but this is a very bad idea when you are judged on your last meal but we do intend to try again because it 's such a wonderful building and we 've had many good experiences in The Pheasant, perhaps before the present owners, we 're not really sure."
