"What a fantastic little gem. We visited recently as we had a friend visiting from Sussex. Booked in for 7.30pm and as soon as we walked in the door we received a great welcome and shown to our lovely table. Everything you needed but not too much. The restaurant was clean and very presentable with a certain coziness. We had all three courses. Butterfly prawns and haddock goujons, served with salad and dips were our starters. We then had burgers and haddock and chips again served with a lovely salad and dips. Out desserts were knickerbocker glory, a trio of ice cream and sticky toffee pudding. To be honest, we all agreed that, all the dishes were absolutely superb, and the best meal out that we had had for a very long time. Fantastic food, fantastic service and a fantastic place for a meal. They are not licensed, so be sure to take your own alcohol. They do serve soft drinks however."

Just back from the No. 4 restaurant in Newton Stewart. I can highly recommend the food which is first class and the staff were friendly and very efficient. We had a lovely meal and would definitely be back again

The food was simply stunning. This man knows how to make batter and the Tone steak was seasoned to perfection. The staff were friendly, the place was warm and the good cannot be faulted. Best place to eat in Newton Stewart town. Would highly recommend.

A beautiful little gem of a place. Great food, service and value for money. Unfortunately there were only the five of us in the whole evening (Thursday 9th February) Come on Newton Stewarties support your local restaurant. This one is a beauty so don’t lose it. Delightful. View menu

Holidaying at local lodge, decided to try No.4. It is a 'bring your own bottle ' and simple restaurant. We popped into the local Sainsbury for some nice wine. 2 courses butterfly prawns and garlic mushrooms and fish/steak both agreed dishes were fabulous. Great service too!

The veg were plentiful and hot on personnal dishes Knickerbocker Glories for the chaps and a doggie box for the crispy fish skins for our pampered pooches saw four very happy people roll off home .

8 friends had dinner here. Service and food was all extremely good. Hubby and myself had Angel fillets of haddock with mussel sauce with veg and a side order of chips. Lovely. 2 Friends had: chicken stuffed with haggis, 1 had beef burger. 1 had Breaded haddock and chips. I can’t remember what the remaining 2 had but suffice to say all good was good and no complaints. We would go again. View menu

My party dined at this restaurant on Friday, July 9th and enjoyed an incredibly delicious meal. Every dish was prepared with top-quality ingredients and cooked perfectly, rivaling that of a high-end city restaurant. The fact that it is also BYOB adds to its exceptional value. It was surprising to find that we were the only patrons on a pleasant Friday evening, as it seems unfortunate that such a gem is not receiving more support from the community.

Travelling around the area and wanted a restaurant and about to give up and head back up to Girvan when we came across No 4 in Newton Stewart. Stopped and when we saw it was quiet to be honest wondered what we had walked into. No need for the trepidation our waitress was knowledgeable and courteous and soon had us at our ease. 2 x Chicken Pate's, 1 large battered fish and chips and one good size Ribeye Steak and veggies later very pleasantly replete (oh and room for a Sticky Toffee pudding that was as light as air) Very well worth the impromptu stop and if you are in the area give it a try, 5.30-8.30, Wednesday to Saturday [hidden link]

"Visiting Port Patrick again today we thought we would try a new place to eat. We normally eat at the same place here but today with chose the Crown Hotel. When you walk into the crown you see how old it is and I must admit it looks quant but a little dated. After finding a seat and deciding what to eat I went to the bar to order food and drinks. The service from the member of staff were pleasant and welcoming. We ordered 2 cokes and 2 stake and ale in a pudding one with chips and one with baby potatoes. We were charged a few pence short of £39 and given 2 cans of coke and asked would we like a glass with them? £4.80 for 2 cans of coke) Going back to the table I sat down and within less than 5 minutes our food was there on our table. I always worry when the food is so quick as I never feel it properly prepared fresh for you and when you are paying £17 a meal you at least want something fresh-ish. WHAT REALLY ANNOYED ME was while we were eating our food people were bringing dogs into the bar past our table to talk to a guy sat next to us. Chatting away these dogs were just sat by our feet as we ate. No one seemed to care about these dogs brushing up against people eating a meal. The food The baby potatoes were ok, the pudding was a frozen one you would get from a supermarket, the veg was hard, the meat was dry and bland and the gravy tasteless. I would say this food was a preprepared meal and just placed into a microwave. I don’t like to be so blunt in my reviews as this is always someone’s business and livelihood was are talking about, but this really was that bad. The service during the meal was none existent. When the waitress came to take our plates she did not seem surprised when I complained about our food, saying only I’ll pass it on. No apologies or anything. Even with me saying the food was especially the veg was disgusting. It was like water off a ducks back. Will I eat here again NO sadly the service and the food was very poor."

"For some reason I can not reply to your answer. Sadly you are absolutely wrong in everything you have stated, I find your tactic of attacking people who give less than 5 star reviews. I am not going to try to defend myself, as I stand by everything I said. I have made an appointment to see a solicitor about your untruthful comments. I would really of liked to put a good review up, however, I would not recommend this hovel to my worst enemy. Firstly the room was so small, and tatty, extremely dated with an alarm clock, which surely has been taken from a chalet from Pontins in the 1970s, that even the amazing view could not compensate. There was dog meat/food on the carpet, and I assume ash. When I went to look for someone to let them know, there was no one about. The bathroom was not fit for purpose, one as it was a converted cupboard, and the notice in the room explaining that the steam from the shower which was cracked set off the sensitive smoke alarm, so you could not even have a shower. Then when we went for breakfast, after waiting for 40 minutes for a breakfast which was a 1 sausage, a piece of streaky bacon, uncooked tomatoes and mushrooms, haggis, b pudding and beans. When I went to complain about this on the way out, I had the pleasure of speaking to someone called Donna, who was at best obnoxious, and as unhelpful as it was someone else 's fault, I quote I don 't clean the rooms, I don 't cook the breakfast . I would rather sleep in a tent than give money to this place, please look elsewhere, unless you want to feel as though you are being ripped off. In response to your reply I thankyou for it. I do not deny that I was irate, and if she cried, I feel terrible about that but I have also left things out, like the denial of the previous evenings attempt with the same lady about the state of the room, however I stand by everything I said, As you are true to form, as it never ever seems to be your fault, if you look at the previous low reviews, it is always someone else 's fault. Oh by the way breakfast took 40 minutes, and as you were not there, maybe you can check CCTV and see that the uncooked food was left, as was the haggis, however the toast provided was superb. I applaud your defense of your staff, I truly do. Hopefully you can maybe if you get another less than favourable review, see that it is the same points over and over again, and try to address them points, just a thought. Thanks again for your reply below, and I stand by everything I said, and truly can 't be bothered dissecting your reply, one slight point, I have witnesses about the night before, so I take with a pinch of salt, your comments"

"Myself and my partner where just outside of portpatrick yesterday and wondered about somewhere to have lunch, it was about 12.30pm on a scorching hot Bank holiday Sunday. We hadn’t actually planned to go there to start with but thought why not. I saw on Facebook Connors Restaurant had just uploaded a Facebook post about stopping there for a choice of 2 lovely menus and a cheeky gin, sounded perfect! The post had went up about 15 mins before we arrived, so I assumed they must be looking to take some tables. I walked down and there where 2 tables taken outside, and 1 table inside. I asked if I could get a table for 2 outside if possible and I was told no they had been reserved and I thought okay but before I could even open my mouth again she said all tables inside where also reserved that they where fully booked. There was 1 table inside, other wise it was pretty empty. Ok no problem, we found somewhere else so no big deal, after about 2 hours spent having food and wondering around we went back to the car (parked just up from Connors restaurant) and I noticed again there was only the 1 table outside, and no one at the others. I’m maybe wrong but I felt like this was odd, the inside didn’t look like it was “fully booked” either. It actually looked a little dead compared to everywhere else. This has also happened to my friends a couple of times too they’ve went in and the place has been stone dead but got turned away because of the excuse of being fully booked. Just felt like it was not quite right. Sorry I never usually write reviews but felt like I had to get my point across on this one. We would love to dine here and hopefully will in the future."
