"Stopped in for brunch on a Thursday early noon after a quick scout on TripAdvisor for places to eat on Morningside Road. A bustling cafe with stripped back wooden tables contrasting against rather elaborate metal light fittings and a mismatch of metal or simple cotton fabric covered chairs, we were luckily shown to the last available table in the back room. The cafe appears small from the outside but is actually deceptively big. Music was easygoing chill out which added to the relaxed atmosphere. Smiling waitresses helped also. We ordered coffees and eggs royale and our waitress promptly brought a jug of water over. Coffees came soon after and we were pleased that they were good...read more"

Salt is a lovely little spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I was surprised at how reasonably priced the dishes are (most mains are less than especially since the menu focuses on local and seasonal food I tried Moules Frites a generous portion of steamed mussels with white wine and parsley, and perfectly crispy, salted fries on the side. It was a great lunch, and a bargain for only

Decent enough food, reasonable friendly service, but does not justify prices. Wine too dear, main courses over price. Not a restaurant, it's a cafe/bar. Twiddly veg does make it worth more. Resticted menu choice should make it easy to focus costs: not on my visit. Staff are obviously out of depth; you need personality. Lots of good choices in Bruntsfield/morningside that offer better. Up it's own ars*?

I came here a few days ago with my friends! was actually not bad! from outside it looks pretty small, but once I was inside there are big tables and also a wee bar that allows many peeps in salt caffe is always busy when I was over and this time was the same. we were sitting at the bar first and as soon as a table was free, we passed. the nice waitress brought our menus the food itself looked delicious, but I ordered a hot chocolate. I feel that eating was expensive, but my friends seemed to enjoy her eating. I liked her decoration and the atmosphere of caffe. it was busy, but also relaxing. View menu

in the humble suburb of morningside is a hidden gem for all her coffee and brunch needs. the exposed back walls, bare glowing bulbs and untreated wooden tables give this place the charming character the locals know so well. the interieur is best described as a combination of bright and dark tones that make the caffe a cozy street spot. it offers stunning good coffee along with Scottish cuisine at a very reasonable price. the staff is very friendly, even in the early hours of the morning seems brunch to visit its most popular time, but I found that grabing a freshly baked croissant and hot coffee in the morning was the best way to find out what Salt...more

amazing, locally procured and so delicious brunch food in the salt cafe in morningside. we had the breakfast of the metzger and the vegetarian breakfast and to drink iain burnett's hot chocolate with milk, alba cola and fresh juices. all up to the Butterei tea and coffee is from the local counter, with many, if not all products available to buy this young couple opened this caffe only last year and earned all their support, they could notice that they are almost booked out at some days, but they should be able to be a table liv making all home baking, and not only has a small child, but also holds a dozen. While steve is the chef, worked under Michelin...read more

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
